Hi guys, i currently use a nvidia geforce gtx 1060 3gb. Is the above a better card and worth me buying?

Yes it`s better, 8 GB VRAM allows it to run many games that 3 GB will struggle with but overall performance is not that much greater.
GTX 1060 6 GB and RX 580 are pretty close in performance.

its not just less ram, but other parts cut down too

Honestly the prices have come down enough, why not just get something like 6500 or 6600 series of Radeon GPU. Kind of silly and pointless to go buying something as old as RX 580

This benchmark is not relevant. The RX580 listed in the description has 2304 stream processors, while we are talking about 2048 or the same level as the RX570.

I saw it on Amazon for 124.99. Not looking for a huge upgrade, just another 10 frames or so. Looks like theres a Radeon RX 5500 XT Graphics Card, 8GB GDDR6 128 Bit for 150. No idea if thats better.

You can get RX 6600 for $200. Makes more sense then going for RX 580.

5500-XT is around 20% faster than the RX 580 2048SP, the latter is a downgraded RX 580 that has around the same performance as an RX 570.

Not that many people know that the 2048SP model even exists because it was silently launched as a budget "alternative" but they're extremely common these days, especially with cheap rebrands.

The RX 580 would barely be more than a sidegrade unless you're entirely held back by the 3 GB VRAM, which is entirely possible. The 5500 XT is very similar to the RX 580 (2304 variant).

The RX 580 (and 5500 XT) is about the same as the GTX 1060 6 GB, which itself is maybe 10% faster than the 3 GB version. They weren't substantially far apart.

For reference, TechPowerUp has the GTX 1060 6 GB, RX 580, and 5500 XT as 111%, 114%, and 115% faster than your GTX 1060 3 GB. That's barely outside what you would call "similar performance" and probably isn't very perceptible of a difference.

So that will get you your 10 frames more... if you're already getting close to 100 FPS. But I imagine you're wanting these 10 extra frames at a much lower baseline? If so, you probably need something a bit faster beyond what you expect in order to get that. I don't think less than a 50% uplift is too worthwhile even for this. That would be something like a GTX 16600 Ti/Super or GTX 1070, or RTX 3050. The former few are old and you'd be going used, and the latter is... not great on price.

The next steps up that you can (maybe?) still find new is the 5600 XT or 6600 non-XT (this one is close to double your current performance) but those are going to be quite a bit more than the RX 580 and 5500 XT you're looking at now. The Arc A580/A750 might be worth the look if you're willing to consider Intel. If you're truly only looking for a small bump and to spend as little as possible instead of "just spending up" then you might want to go used and look for a GTX 1070 or GTX 1660 or or something. Those aren't great but they meet the small criteria well enough and might be the best cheapest things for your circumstances if you're willing to risk used.

No problem, PooBum, keep an eye on pricing for the entire 6600 and 6700 series before you pull the trigger, because there's the 6600, 6600XT, 6650XT, 6700, 6700XT, and 6750XT

I bought an RX 580 because I wanted something cheap for Linux that had 8GB of VRAM and 6600s were more than I wanted to pay :P

Still not a bad option for that if you can get them cheap enough, but AMD moving Polaris and Vega to legacy support status a few months back them tough to recommend for Windows users, yes.
