Thermaltake GF1 850W OEM bait and switch
I kept an eye on this PSU until recently found out that there are 2 different batches, one from Vietnam and one from China. The Vietnamese one is apparently the low quality one. Now the question is, does the TT bait and switch only apply to the 850W model or does it also apply to the cheaper 750W model? The store page for the 750W model on amazon does not say the country of origin.

my comment:
it doesnt matter from what country electronics come. electrically it just has to function in first place. it is a legend, that made in india is not the same as made in china. electronic parts work all the same way. if you know what i mean. i dont want to be offensive. dont get me wrong.

If you want something reliable I would check out Corsair or EVGA instead.
Cheaper Thermaltake PSU models are generally rubbish.

Yep, this is one of the threads that i found which had the OEM explanation. It doesn't mention anything about the 750W version which i'm personally interested in.

EVGA A-Tier models are either never in stock or overpriced to hell. Still thinking about Corsair though, the RM750x does look promising. Not so sure about Seasonic and Bequiet in general.

i have bequiet pure power 12 m 750 watts. it runs all my needs and i never had a more silent psu. just to mention.

seasonic designs most good psus, for many other brands including corsair evga and bequiet

Maybe you can consider shopping for the gf3 variant instead as this has the country of origin as China which is your preference? It's about 30 USD more than the Vietnamese variant on Amazon. You have to scroll way past a lot of stuff to get to the section with the country of origin.

I couldn't find much of anything on a "bait and switch" scheme for the 750 watt model. I even switched to Google's search engine. :steamhappy: Anyway, companies that pull this stunt get caught sooner or later and suffer fines and bad reputations.

Edited to replace a snip and correct a price

Fun fact: Indian metals are of higher quality than Chinese metals but American metals were/are the best. I still am a fan of Taiwanese metals and products. Free Taiwan!

Just avoid Thermaltake power supplies, stick to Corsair, EVGA, and SeaSonic primarily

I just bought a GF3 from Amazon, I suspect the very same GF3 listing in your second screenshot that says "Country of Origin: China." On the outer shrinkwrap of the package is a SKU sticker that says Made in Vietnam. So don't expect that to mean anything, I guess.
