amd a10 7860k cores problem

Hello, I wanted to know if someone can help me with a problem I have, which is that my processor is an AMD A10 7860K. On the AMD page it says that it has 4 cores and 4 threads, but when I go into the task manager it tells me that I have 2 cores and 4 logical processors, if anyone can help me I would appreciate it, thank you very much

AMD lied about Bulldozer architecture.

It is a dualcore with hyperthreading.

amd had a huge lawsuit over 'what defines a core'
the fpu is the root of a core, the fx and axx cpus have 2 threads per fpu
amd said fx8-9 have 8 cores, when its really 4 cores with smt, your a10 has 2 cores (fpu) with 4 threads (smt)

It's a factory crippled CPU, so operating systems don't know what exactly to think of it. There are 4 "cores" but they know to do only integer operations independently. Two of these cores make a "module" which have a shared floating point unit. A normal CPU usually has one or more cores than can do both integer and floating point operations at the same time, but not this one. It's not as bad as having 2 cores, but it's not as good as having 4 real cores. If you're not doing any virtualization, this shouldn't matter that much. In both theory and practical terms, you should get about the performance as a 2C/4T HT/SMT CPU, less than a 4C/4T CPU. You can find more info all over the web about this CPU.

The Wikipedia Page for Bulldozer microarchitecture[en.wikipedia.org] has some good diagrams of what is going on. AMD A10-7860K uses the 3rd generation of this architecture, called Steamroller. They've rolled down to the Earth's core with this one.

On the bright side, at least it was cheap... and pretty light on power... and the iGPU is better than the iGPUs on 6th gen intel i3 and i5 of the time.

Final thoughts: don't worry about the core count problem too much, and enjoy your APU. If the performance is too low for you, just upgrade to something better.

they were slow even when new at that time
compared to any intel i series cpu

the only good thing about the axx was the igpu, which was better than intel gma/hd at the time
and as good as low end nvidia dedicated gpu options

Having used to own a 7860K almost 7 years ago, even if it was a quad-core, it still wouldn't do you very well, most games the APU was an obvious issue for consistency. AMD processors of that era weren't particularly fast even when they were new. Nowadays, they're e-waste.

yea, when ryzen was released, i have no idea why they kept producing those garbage cpus, other than just to sell something with an igpu

ryzen was so much faster, and intel i series 6th gen or so would just wipe the floor with them, and the intel hd/uhd was about as good as its igpu

made zero since to even buy one ever

7860K came out only a year before Zen too as part of a refresh generation

Socket AM4 had some lower end A-series and Athlon APUs for the office space

ok, thats was an fm2 socket, before ryzen
still on the edge of being useful compared to other options at the time

intel g3900 was released around that time
with better core performance (no ht) with similar igpu performance at lower price
only downside was it needed a more expensive board and ram
