Is it a good idea to unlock my cpu cores? i have an i5 2500k 3.3 ghz
Will it risk damaging my computer?

There are no extra cores that can be unlocked in Intel CPUs. That can only be done with some AMD CPUs.

The K in Intel I5 and I7 CPU identifiication numbers indicates that the CPU can be overclocked to a degree without voiding the warranty.
If you want to know more about overclocking then google search 'overclocking cpu.

I don't recommend overclocking CPUs unless you can afford to replace a destroyed CPU.

It's already unlocked if it's a K

Using one for what? The Operating System? That is fine. Apps/Games will use the others.

Yeah, theres no such thing as unlocking cores for Intel CPUs. It will already use all your cores. You should overclock the 2500K if possible though for more performance.

the only cores that were locked in on amd aii and pii dual/tri (x2/x3)
they are the quad dies, that have 1-2 disabled
they may have been disabled if they do not work, or to fill orders for lower core count cpus

intel i series celeron, pentium and i3 have 1 or 2 bad cores
even if they could enabled the cpu will not work correctly

the i5 2500k is safe to overclock
worst case, corrupt the os or thermal throttle
