Is 361.43 WHQL the most stable driver on Windows 10 right now?
After having to reinstall Windows 10 due to failed boots caused by either Windows updates or 361.91 WHQL, I've been fighting with the video drivers and the ones I tried, including 358.91 WHQL, which was installed by default, caused BSODs when trying to wake the PC from sleep. Then I installed 361.43 WHQL, an older driver version from last December which added support for VR headsets, and after about five sleep/wake cycles, no issues so far. Does everyone else agree that this is a good driver worth keeping? If so, I'm scared to update the drivers again after all that has happened and with the recent bad batch of drivers. 361.82 WHQL works fine on Windows 8.1, but was problematic on Windows 10. Can anyone shed some light into this matter?

But I have well over 20 programs installed, so if I do a clean reinstall, then I have to install all those programs again and set up my settings. Why spend three hours going through all of that when I could back up the disk partition? But anyway, it looks like 361.43 WHQL is the only driver I could find that's working well, so I'll stick with it. If something bad happens, then I'll use DDU and reinstall the drivers then.

This is incorrect.

Driver Fusions previous name was Driver Sweeper, which many of you have heard of i imagine. Treexy is the original creator of driver sweeper.

While Driver Fusion does do more than just clean Drivers, yes they basically do the same thing, though while DDU is specifically for Graphic drivers, Driver Fusion has a bigger selection of driver cleaning and isnt restricted to just NVIDIA/AMD Drivers.

The reason why I do not recommend "Driver Fusion" is do to the fact that it can update drivers for you. Because it does this, it is just as bad as all the other "driver managment" applications.

I have fixed so many computers where these sort of programs were to blame.

I've also dealt with a repair recently where this specific program was the culprit.

Just because the application has had a decent history does not mean that it is good now... so, not incorrect.

DDU would be a better option.

Definitely agree.

I'm not sure what programs would take three hours to setup but okay. Do whatever you feel is best... I was just giving a possible better option.

Again, if you are only able to get 361.43 working... then you have an issue. If it is causing a BSOD, black screens, shutdowns, etc... then you have a serious conflict, which can cause you more headache down the line.

I suggest the following...

1. Make sure you are running the latest BIOS version for your motherboard. If you have to update BIOS, use a USB flash drive and use in a port directly from the motherboard and not the case.

2. Update motherboard drivers. Chipset, audio, SATA, USB, etc. You can get these from the support section of your motherboard's webpage.

3. Use DDU to uninstall GPU drivers. Be sure to disable or disconnect your internet, until the latest driver is installed.

4. Use CCleaner to clean up the mess in the registry, which is most likely where your conflicts are occuring. DDU will fix the GPU part of the registry mess, but I can about bet that there are some left over from letting Windows mess with your drivers.

5. I'd also recommend disabling auto updates. DDU will do this (sorta) automatically but only on a low level state. Sometimes Windows will still try to mess with hardware drivers, regardless. You can have better control over updates on Windows 10... but you need Group Policy which is only on Pro.

So how do I use the group policy?

You can only use it if you have Win10 Pro

The above link I provided should show you how to control updates better in Windows 10.

OK, thanks. I changed the update settings to manual (notify for download and install). That way, I can prevent installing faulty updates like KB3140734, which started the Windows 10 ruckus. Is there a good website I could go to view bug reports on updates before installing them?

Sure enough, the wake bug returned last night. I ran the DDU program you guys suggested and reinstalled the same drivers. So far the PC is waking from sleep a bit faster than before without hesitation. Keeping my fingers crossed that it will work this time. I did not have this problem on Windows 8.1 and my other PC, though, but I'll run DDU on them and install the 361.43 WHQL on those as well. Thanks guys. I'll keep you posted on how this is working out.
