but ht does make the cpu run hotter when overclocked
I do believe the issue was eventually fixed from a game patch, but it was rather annoying for those that did have i7 CPUs.
I can't say I've heard of any recent issues with games and HT.
So what is Hyperthreading? It's two threads to each of those cores.
This allows applications/games to stack different processes on each of those cores, maximising their work load greatly, rather than idling or just half used. However to do this, the app/game must be coded in a certain way.
Quite a few games (specially the older ones) don't make use of Hyperthreading, therefore i5 CPU can be more optimal for them to game upon.
Multi-tasking, multi-threaded apps and games will however benefit with Hyperthreading.
