preventing headphones from breaking at the jack
I recently bought a pair of headphones, and when opening the box, I noticed that it had a straight jack instead of a right angled one. Every headphone set I've ever used that had a straight jack eventually started breaking / shorting where the wire connected to the jack, so I'm wondering if there's a way to prevent this from happening in the first place. I do currently have a problem with my headphones having to take a 180 degree turn to get from my keyboard (best place to input) to where I'm sitting, so I might have to address that too.
Does anyone know of a good way to prevent my headphones from breaking at the jack?

what kind of headphones? Sennheiser, AKG, Grado labs, audio technica typically have great connectors on all their headphones.

Without that information OP i cant tell you much more. The idea is if the connectors die and the cables easily bent then said headphone isnt of good build quality.

for lengthening you require a female to male 3.5mm extender cable

Don't bend it too much... thats pretty much the only thing that damages the cable connectors. Either connect it to the actual pc tower so the cable goes straight, or get an extension cable to reduce the risk of you accidentally pulling the cable and bending it.

Buy cheap, buy twice.

I really don't want to sound like an a-hole, but that's basically how it is. Especially in the audio market you can invest into something decent, and it won't be outdated for ages.

Look into the 100$+ market from AKG, Sennheiers, AT, and my personal favorite: Beyerdynamic. Plenty of models also offer detachable cables.

With good headphones it's the other way around: you probably gonna break the lineout port from your PC / laptop before the headphone cable causes any issues.

loop it at the jack connection with a wire tie.
