Equivalent of 1280x1024 in a higher resolution?
I play my games at 1280x1024, yes it is blury and it doesn't look sharp, I would love to play in 1920x1080 which is the reccomended resolutio nfor my widescreen monitor, but it destorts the image and makes it look longer and narrower despite filling the whole screen. I have tried 1680x1050 but I am so used to the strech side ways, that Ikeep resorting back to 1280x1024, is there a way around this? would a different type of monitor help? It is very annoying as I woant to upgrade my graphics card from my gtx770 but there is not much point until I can figure this out.

I have measured my monitor from corner to corner of the frame, it is 19" could this play a partin this conundrum?

1280x1024 is a 4:3 aspect ratio.

2048x1536 would be the closest to 1080p for that aspect ratio.

Dude, you the man, how did you work that out? anyway, I have black bars which figures at that resolution as they are stoping the distortion which I am complaining about, text is blury on desktop but game looks good, A bbigger monitor with this resolution perhaps for gaming? as for the desktop I could always stick to a lower resolution.
1280x1024 is a 5:4 resolution actually.

True. I like this new one he has told me though (in game anyway lol).
Anyway, still can't understand why getting used to a widescreen is that hard.

Changing to the native resolution of a screen doesn't 'distort' an image as you can't change the size of a pixel. However changing to any other non-native resolution will more than likely screw things up.

Because everything looks longer, I don't get why it does so much, anyway I will mess about some more and see what I decide.
What is the native resolution of your current monitor anyway or the exact model of it? You claim to display images with a 1280x1024 resolution, but it sounds like it is creating more problems than it should be.

16:10 will be about twice the width
look for a 1920 x 1200 monitor

Basically I want 1280x1024 at 16:9 aspect ratio but not blurred, is this possible? otherwise, somehow, the total equivalent higher resolution.

1920x1360 is the closest I have it but it does come with top and bottom black bars.

I'd like to have a continuous exchange of opinion as well, but can we at least have some concrete info about your side first?

Huh?

Native 1920x1080, but the more i change it closer that the more the screen becomes narrow, I don't like it as it is but it looks extremely narrow, everything looks to skinny on that resolution.

Is the refresh rate set at 60Hz? Most recent 16:9 monitors have a native 60Hz refresh rate for 1920 x1080, and manually forcing a different one will likely shift the image to an undesired position.

Yes it is set to 60hz, I must add that my games console also automatically looks stretched from top to bottom on it at 1080p and I can't change the settings on it, my monitor model is S22B350H. By the way, thanks for everyones input.

This is indeed very strange. Assuming you haven't done anything else to the monitor settings the console and PC should automatically detect the right resolution of the display and adjust accordingly. Have you considered returning it to the shop and check for faults?

I may try a new 16:9 monitor to see if it is just the monitor itself that is the problem, I will also add a link to a screenshot that I find on google that looks like what I am seeing at 1080p.

This is an image that represents what I see when I set my monitor to it's native resolution http://www.proximus.be/dam/cdn/sites/support/images/tv_format/tv-format-4-3-stretched.jpg
