DDR4 CPU with DDR3 parts.

So a while back I started working on a computer with my father and we got a DDR3 mother board with 2 8gig sticks of DDR3 ram and we were going to get a CPU that was also DDR3 but it was sold out at the time. Now we have ordered the Intel Core i7-5820K Haswell-E 6-Core 3.3 GHz LGA 2011-v3 140W and after putting it in we learned that it was DDR4 and we have turned it on yet. I was wondering if the CPU works with the DDR3 parts.

DDR3 and DDR4 are quite different, your DDR3 sticks will not work in DDR4 slots as far i can recall. best to return them and pick up the same size in DDR4.

basically DDR1 wont work in a DDR3 board for example so the rule applies for 3 and 4

Yes you will need DDR4 RAM sticks.

if the board does not have this socket, the cpu will not work its as simple as that. sounds like you bought the wrong socket CPU as last i checked the cache on the cpu isnt DDR its measured in L3 and L2 via the MB

you have Ram and L3 and L2 caches confused they are not one in the same. DDR as the poster below me states involves RAM

The CPU can't be a 'DDR4'. Double Data Rate is a term used to describe RAM speed.

LGA 2011-v3 is not the same as LGA2011. That CPU will never run on an X79 board.

The motherboard you linked does not support the 5820k. You need a new motherboard AND new DDR4 RAM. Or you need to return that CPU if you still can.

i ment there is no DDR4 inside said processor as the OP seems to imply. He needs a new board and ram pretty much as i forgot the 5820 isnt like the previous ones.
