Is 70°C safe for a laptop?
My laptop's cpu & gpu temperature reaches about 70 degrees when playing.
Is it safe enough or should i get a better cooling pad?

I use afterburner to measure the temp, is it accurate?
i7 4710hq & gtx 860m

thanks

It Should Be fine i play games and it reashes 60-70 degrees celcius But If your Laptop is making noises form the fan you are better off resting the laptop if yourgame is lagging while your laptop is at 70 degrees you are better off getting a better laptop or cooling pad

70°C is perfectly normal for any GPU under load.

ok thanks, so how high is too high?

laptops, 60-70c is normal
100c is where they will throttle

Under 90*C is safe and perfectly quite normal for laptops when under high loads for long periods.

anything over 95c is worrisome less is anything under that temp is fine for laptops

Most laptop will throttle the CPU/GPU once they hit around or above 90-95*C area
Hitting this, usually the inside is clogged up, or the fan(s) are failing.
If you game alot on a Laptop, you'll most likely replacing the internal fan(s) every 1-2 years; which is also a good time length where the Thermal Paste should be re-done for the CPU/GPU as well.

anything above 85c (sustained) is dangerous, 70c is quite good

While I agree that 85C is a nice ceiling for comfort, technically these things can go up above 95C, 100C, or even 105C if you're an AMD RDNA card and still be fine. They'll throttle before they reach anything immediately dangerous.

That of course doesn't take into account longevity past the warranty period, but neither does the testing and validation the chipmakers do.

Unless the cpu/gpu is above 90*C it's fine

perseonally i have reached 100C so dont try to get it above 110C

It depends.

70 C at idle or under load?

Also, if you are connected to a dock using Thunderbolt, even at idle temps get uncomfortably hot for some Windows laptops.

it will not go over 100c
it will throttle to stay below that

The topic is SEVEN years old. You think your answers are still relevant?

Laptops will thermal throttle after approx 90*C anyways. Depending on the exact cpu and gpu it has, along with how the maker might have set this up within the bios firmware
