But it also looks like it would block the 1st DIMM slot with the fan..
with the EVO you can place the fan on the left side of the cooler to avoid such things, not sure if you can with the EVGA..
Also, the EVO works best with the fan on the opposite side as well, dust doesnt gather around the fins and the fan like it does on the right side, and the fan itself and the cooler tends to stay a little cleaner, per my experience with the EVO.
Unless the EVO isnt doing it for you anymore, i wouldnt bother with the EVGA.. not to mention the EVGA is a little larger than the EVO going by specs.
It also seems that cooler is nearly 5 years old, so ehhhh..
Mostly due to the coolers age i think, the review i read was from back in 2011

If you want to upgrade your cooler the next best thing would be liquid cooling, the EVO is among the best as far as air coolers go.

The EVO and the + arent the same coolers
And that Test is using an i7 920, temps which arent related to current Gen Intel CPUs, and those temps are to high to even be of any use in comparisions anyway.
they cooling ability is close tho
X is the newer design, the best included fan so far. (The PLUS had a better Fan than EVO)
Use the EVO as-is til the Fan dyes; then buy newer thinner profile fans for it and change em out. You won't really gain anything going from the EVO heatsink to the X heatsink; the default fan shipped with "Hyper 212" series are all 25mm thick, which can pose an issue on some boards with only 2x DIMMs (ITX or mATX) or ATX boards when all 4x DIMMs are populated.
If this is already an issue, replace the CM EVO fan with one that is only 20mm thick.
If using already and everything is fine, the EVO fan is crap, so it most likely will live a rather short life, when the EVO fan dies, replace it with 20mm fan. If you want better cooling out of the same heatsink, set it up for Push+Pull and perhaps buy better Static-Pressure Fans for your Case and even out the -/+ overall air pressure and airflow inside; which will help your CPU/GPU a bit more too.
Overall, the 212-PLUS had a lot of draw-backs in heatsink design (mostly the included mounts and such), but has a better, longer lasting fan over the 212-EVO. Already have a 212-EVO, then changing to a 212-X won't really change anything for you. Just install better fans when/if needed.
Apparently the cooler is a rebranded Polaris, which is anything else than silent.

Evo 212 isn't the best air cooler, but certainly one of the best in terms of price / performance, and certainly well rounded. Would be quite a downgrade to replace it with the mentioned alternative.
