DO NOT waste your time using VGA.
Again, Masuo, u can hookup Game Display to GTX 960 HDMI; extra display to Intel GPU HDMI.
Games usually are 1 monitor or 3 (or more)
Not 2
I KNOW you dont need mutliple monitors for gaming, I WANT to be able to PICK on wich monitor I want ot play without need to unplug, plug and set the resolutions AGAIN, every single time I want to play on my monitor or T.V.
Let me put an example, I want to play TF2 with keyboard, so I play it on my monitor, everything good there; now if I want to play Rocket League on my T.V. with an Xbox Controller, using the Intel GPU HDMI is a TERRIBLE idea, because the game will be so slow and terrible I cant even play it.
Thats WHY I want the GTX 960 to work on both, my monitor and T.V., not the Intel GPU, because Im ALREADY using that for my monitor and I know how bad Rocket Leae runs on the T.V. if isnt from the GTX960 directly.
I would never buy a display that didn't have DVI + HDMI + DP all on it.
Just makes sense this way.
Now for you, I'd have to troubleshoot it in person to really detmerine WHY u having such issues.
Could be bad cable, adapter or the port on your GPU.
So please before u return the GPU, try a DVI-to-HDMI adapter if the DP-to-HDMI doesn't work.
I just had to deal with and figured out the SAME issue with the SAME GPU... I was being lazy and not plugging the display-port cord ALL THE WAY in since i didn't realize it would snap into place. Once i figured that out I realized i was being EXTRA lazy and that i hadn't plugged the DP cable into the left most Display Port cause i didn't want to unplug my DVI cord. Once i did that everything is working as intended. DP-HDMI for primary monitor, DVI-DVI for secondary monitor, HDMI-HDMI for TV. All working! Hope this helps ...
I did plug the DP all the way but never worked for me...., I might try again later on when I get a different DP cable and such but for now, the DVI-I to HDMI is working perfectly.
The first of two HDMI monitors had no issue (since its just the one port). When I wanted to add the second monitor for the dual screen setup, I got myself a HDMI-DVI-D adapter - no issues here.
Problem was getting the third screen - the TV - working. I had issues with it previously when I attempted to use the TV as the original second monitor, and when I was trying the DP ports didn't work. Same case yet again.
But one random thing DID get all three screens working - I removed monitor #1, left monitor #2 intact, connected the TV (It worked!) and then only reconnected monitor #1 again! All 3 screens working perfectly!
I guess there is some power delivery issue on the GPU if there is already a HDMI output being used, which kinda *kills* the Displayports. Once I figured this could be an issue, inserting the DP output in first fixed the whole problem!
Hoped I helped!
If a TV is in the mix, that's the one that should use HDMI.
On some GPUs, when doing 3x Displays, this usually may rule out the ability to use form of DVI or VGA as part of that mix.
at least i believe thats why it isnt working.
With that said
if an HDMI cable or DP cable is of poor quality or not the correct rating thats required i.e 1.1 - 1.2 etc etc then theres another reason why it may not work.
It's not a good idea to plug in VR via such adapters and is probably why the DP appears to not work. Only way to make sure is by trying a display that actually has DP on it.
Your gpu can't even handle VR anyways, as you want at least a gtx 980 / 1060 6gb for that
Exactly, Nvidia Experience can tell you what your GPU can handle, and GTX960 cant handle VR.
As for the main topic like [A][S][A] stated, it can definitelly be a power issue, my 2 setup worked but due electricity issues on my zone, Im afraid the adapter or the GPU port got damaged overtime. But atm Im not required to have a second monitor so I havent bother to check adn fix the issue.
I was looking to get cables for the specific ports but on Mexico it was almost impossible to find DVI cables (even less the lenght I required), HDMI cables are more common, longer, thus I adquired an adapter.
Your issue is you need a better gpu.
But you would most likely need to find something like gtx 980 or 980 Ti if you still want to use DVI-I or VGA.
Gpus newer then those don't have DVI-I and thus won't support VGA, except via an "active DP to VGA adapter" as newer gpus all have HDMI and DP. And ones that still happen to have DVI on them are DVI-D which is digital only, thus can't adapt to VGA.
Thats the thing, at the time the GTX960 wasnt that old and was the best my budget allowed me to get, I didnt necro my own post, it was necro by 2 who now have issues and one of them wants to use VR on it....
As I stated already, I do have an issue with my current setup but I do not need to fix it either, so its not really an issue anyway.
