GTX 960 DisplayPort not working?
Hello guys, I just got a DP to HDMI adapter for my GTX960 to be able to use my T.V. as a secondary monitor, the issue is, not the T.V. or Nvidia's control pannel detects it; I returned it and got a new cable but its the same issue again.

I know my T.V. is working as its fines when I use the HDMI port directly or a VGA cable from the motherboard, but the DP dont throw me any signal or anything, any advice?.

Ok well power down the PC and ensure no Display/Cables are plugged into any Video Output from the Motherboard I/O ports; any Display you will want to connect to the GTX 960 only. Connect the Display, power on the display, switch that to the correct input, then power on the PC.

For now, as a means of trouble-shooting, just try ONLY the DP-to-HDMI adapter/cable from TV to GTX 960 and see if that is actually working or not. If no display appears. Please allow the HDD LED on your case to stop, as the OS will most likely still be loading, regarding of lack of display picture signal. So you want to wait til after the OS loads to power off. When u go to power off, simply press the power button (not hold down) on your Case, which should trigger WinOS to do the Shutdown method properly.

Thank you for your response Bad-Motha.

Following your instructions, my TV still shows a "no signal" message like usual and for any empty/unused input, and it had no response or changes.

Nvidia's control panel dont show the secondary monitor either (not that it did before).

make sure the tv is on the correct input before having the pc detect it

are you usign any adapters, dp-hdmi and hdmi-vga ect..

I know the TV is on the correct input, as the TV works fine directly on the HDMI port with the same cable, but when using the adapter DP-HDMI, and using the DP port on the GTX...nothing.

To clarify, Im using the DP port on the GTX 960, and HDMI input on the TV, wich is why I need the adapter so I can use HDMI directly on my main monitor (wich does not detect the HDMI signal from the DP-HDMI) and DP-HDMI on the TV.

And since this is the second adapter I got, I doubt it could be the adapter itself...but both cables were fro mthe same manufacturer.

Have you solved this yet because i'm having the same problem and i would love to have it fixed.

I havent, I had tested two cables already and monitors, but the DP dont respond to them. Im still on the process to get a third cable wich head shoudl be smaller to make sure it fits all the way into the port (because there is a designe failure on the case that might be preventing that).

Just to discard any possible cable issue and focuse on the card.

A few questions for Masuo and Mart:

Why can't u just use HDMI-to-HDMI?

DisplayPort is nice but it really is designed more for when u need to do 120/144Hz
HDMI on newer GPUs allow upwards of 2160p @ 60Hz, so HDMI shouldn't be an issue really for 24-75Hz depending on the Display specs.

I can only assume either you do not have a solid connection (full-sized DP cable ends have a clip-button-based-lock on them for secure connection) or that your adapter (or cables) is faulty.

If you need to do 2x Displays; try doing 1x DVI-D and 1x HDMI

I never had a problem using DP myself; but I always use Displays that actually have a DP port, as well as DP-to-DP cables (GPU to Display; no adapters, period)

As you menttioned it already Bad-Motha, I do want to use 2 displays, not for dual gaming but so I can watch Youtube/Work on the second monitor or to pick on wich screen I want to play my games. This is also required for Twitch streams with some sort of quality.

My DP cable does indeed have something that resembles a button, now that you mention it.

I have never seen a DVI-D cable before, and for me to work, I would require it to be DVI-D to HDMI or PC; because my T.V. have inputs for both.

Ok this is getting rather confusing; do this please.

List your GPU and all it's available ports.
List all your Displays and all the ports (per display) that those support.

This would help us help u greatly.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960

Ports: Dual Link DVI-I, HDMI 2.0, 3x DisplayPort 1.2

Which Displays? What Digital Ports are available per screen u wish to use?
Masuo15 Mar 10, 2016 @ 2:02pm
I dont know how you call those ports that are always open for any processor, so Im gonna clal those "PC", like for the old school's monitors.

Monitor: HDMI, PC
TV: 2x HDMI, PC

I had checked and he HDMI port works for the tv and monitor, so far only the DP dosnt work whenever I try, the PC port works for both but I cant use it because it would be using the integrated card on the processor, not the nvidia graphics.

PC is not a port; the reason HDTVs label some for "PC" is because most TVs have a PC HDMI which is the one that can work smoother in conjuction to the TV being set to PC / Game Mode; that is what to use for a Game Console as well.

These are "ports"

VGA (aka D-Sub)
DVI
HDMI
DisplayPort (aka DP)

Masuo15 u can hookup a 2nd screen to the Intel HD GPU's HDMI (Motherboard I/O) for use as a 2nd screen if u not intending to use that 2nd screen to display games.

But I do intend to display games too, I even said that: "not for dual gaming but so I can watch Youtube/Work on the second monitor or to pick on wich screen I want to play my games.".

By deal gaming I meant like "playing the same game o ntwo monitors, to make two monitors into one big view", thats not what I want to do, just keep playing on one OR the other, depending if I use a keyboard or a controller.

The DP did not work so far, with 2 diferente cables being DP to HDMI. Tahts the issue I have but Im not sure if were both cables or not, but using a DVI to HDMI is worth a shoot.

And yes, the port was VGA, I couldn't remember it.

Okay so I've spent all day trying to fix this. My DisplayPorts obviously don't work. My DVI-A... only displays blue and green, the red doesn't work at all. My port for it is broken it is not my cord or adapter. Soooo my graphics card is defective and I've had it for more than a year so I can not return it. Best of luck to you though.
