7900XTX vs 7900 XT
So, I was planning on upgrading my graphics card from a 1070, and I was originally planning on buying a 7900 XTX, but the 7900XT is ~$250 less than the XTX. I know the XTX can run 4K, and I was wondering if the XT was able to as well, or if in general it'd be more worth it? It's 800 vs 1050 (rough estimates).

Edit: I want to add, I do not have a 4k monitor at the moment, that's another whole debacle, that's much later down the line, but I wanted to be able to run 4k on a conventional/non cheap 4K monitor if I ever come into the possession of one. For the first while, I will be playing on a 1440p 165hz monitor.

Edit 2: I did want to mention, 60-80 FPS is fine, but any more is more than welcome. I've been playing 60 FPS for years, that doesn't need to change if it has to stay the same way.

Up to you.
4K at native is hard even for the 7900XTX. People usually use upscaling but even FSR looks great at 4K.

Check some video benchmarks on YouTube to get some realistic idea of the performance

At this resolution you’ll want AI upscaling and to turn down anti aliasing. Preferably using lightweight versions like TAA.

ok.. as for performance..

4K ultra :

an RTX can run 100+ FPS stable (only card that can.
an 7900XTX runs around 90-95FPS
an RTX 4080 runs around 80-85 FPS
an 7900XT runs around 75-80 FPS

while personally I only accept 100+ fps and rather play 1440p than <100fps 4k..
commonly anything above 60fps is considered playable, while below 60fps is considered unplayabvle.

both the 7900XTX and 7900XT are well above that 60FPS point.

the 7900XTX you can expect about 92FPS
the 7900XT you can expect about 80FPS

this means the 7900XTX runs a solid 15% faster.
but it costs 30% more...

I leave it upto you if 15% more performance is worth paying 30% more.

compared to the 1600 an 4080 costs or the 2200 an 4090 costs.. either are fantastic deals.

I was also thinking about a 4070 ti, Asus TUF has a good one available for around the same price of a 7900XT. Would that be viable as well, or should I skip over it?

I don't see an extra X making a huge difference.

the 4070ti and 7900XT are both around 850 euro.
the 7900XT gets closer to 80fps
the 4070ti gets closer to 72fps.

10% less fps for the same price??
-> granted DLSS3 tend to work better in games that support it than FLS3.. but that only applies to a few titles.

if you look for the minimimal costs to run 4k..

570 euro gets you an 7800XT
600 euro gets you an 4070

the 7800XT can run 4k in 60fps
the 4070 can run 4k in 57fps

so the 4070 costs 5% more and performs 5% less than the 7800XT
but it does have the better DLSS3

that would be the absolute minimum you would need to run 4k..

Depends on what you're playing. Not every game needs an expensive GPU. I've got a 6800 XT. It's getting to be a bit underpowered for new AAA games, but it's still overpowered for a lot of Steam's most played games.

ya know... it's funny how I got this new rig with a RTX4060 and I look at all the games on steam and they all just require the GTX1060 I had before...

gonna be fun maxing everything out for a while I guess...

It won’t last for unreal engine 5 titles. Ark Ascended runs poorly on less than a 4070 / 3080.

Ark, all of them, are poorly optimized...

I personally play at 4K but almost always use upscaling. It's like getting free performance. FSR usually looks very good at 4K. So, because of upscaling, I like to check the 1440p performance, focusing mostly on the 1% low rather than the average. According to benchmarks, I should only get about 30fps in the newest Avatar game at native 4K, but I actually get a stable 120fps at upscaled 4K, even with RT ON, on my 7900XTX. FSR3 is like magic in that game.

Fun fact: FSR/DLSS balance and performance at 4K have higher input resolution than FSR/DLSS quality at 1440p.

Sure, but they're also a lot more demanding than Unreal Engine 4. They look better too.
