Memory frequencies
I'm having a bit of a problem with my memory. It's 4800mhz, dual channel 16gb. Now, task manager detects it as 4000mhz, CPUID too.

Now i went to the BOIS, set it to 4800, computer wouldn't boot and started looping. Force closed it, reboot, i got a prompt to reset the settings, which i did.

Am i supposed to select 2400? I wouldn't try that again.

Are you telling me i should put it back to dual channel? I'm not exactly keeping up.
Not necessarily. I'm just trying to explain that you are most likely at the exact same performance with either 4800 @ single channel or 2400 @ dual channel. Neither option is any faster than the other.

I understand i made a mistake by getting 4800 memory, but that's what i have right now. It's a bit like crakers. Buy 2 for 20% discount. I still need only one box, and it's cheaper like that.
I think your mistake was not checking the verified-memory-list for the motherboard and selecting a memory kit on the verified list.

You are supposed to just go and enable XMP or EXPO in the BIOS and it will do the rest of the needed changes, included within the profile.

Are you new to PCs? This is how it's always been since since like 2010 or so.

I didn't see those labels. Closest to those i have would be plain auto settings for the details of the memory tuning.

"TUF GAMING Z790-PLUS WIFI" motherboard.

If you could spot the setting, somehow, it would help a lot. I don't know those tags and i really don't know what i'd be looking for.

ddr shows double the actual freq in mhz
ddr 4800 = 2400mhz

on the overclock page it should have xmp profile you can select and apply
amd may call it something else, docp or something

Possibly named DOCP.

This is all i can find. I'll try the settings in the SS if that makes sense?

I can't find the labels you guys quote.

It's never called DOCP anymore on newer Motherboards and never on Intel based boards. Intel = XMP. On AMD AM4 it might go by XMP or DOCP. AMD AM5 it's called EXPO.

In your UEFI BIOS you have standard and advanced, always click Advanced > go to DRAM section and there should be an option for XMP Enable/Disable and from there an XMP Profile option. Also since you are on Z790, ensure there is not an ASUS Tuned OC preset for the CPU; as this is sometimes the default OC profile for the CPU, which is not good to have enabled unless you know what it does.

You can easily find and know all of this within your Motherboard Manual. If you don't have the paper-back copy, go to the Support site for your exact Motherboard on your Phone/Tablet, or Laptop and download + view the PDF manual.

This is my EZ setting page. I don't see XMP-EXPO-DOCP listed anywhere, and i have been looking for those.

There's this box in the SS. I don't know what it is or what it does. I usually wouldn't touch that kind of stuff, but it does seem to be on the right spot for an alternative. Heck... imma google the thing.

Curse ASUS for this; it's their own re-naming of XMP; aka ASUS Enhanced Memory Profile

Yes click there on AEMP II

EDIT:
What doesn't work?
Also I'm curious, what RAM did you even buy? 4800 seems all wrong. You should be on DDR5, which should be options such as 5600, 5800, 6000, 6400

This is what i get from setting it to 2400 and 1:2. It's labeled at half the speed, but i think i gained 20 FPS in a crowded area, for Jedi Survivor.

Pretty sure that's the one. Amazon isn't logged though. I was trying to match a number on the motherboard page with the memory. Mobo said 4600 and i went looking for that. Ended up being 4800 and none of it all makes sense.

:steamfacepalm: 4800 is the LOWEST DDR5 SPEED

Your Motherboard supports up to DDR5-7200

But the better ones to buy are usually 5800 or 6000 if you have i7/i9

I was having uh.... something slower on my previous system. I didn't know what i should be getting and the mobo's page on Amazon was not exactly covering this very well.

I don't know it said....

4600 memory speed? so the stuff would be twice that or?

Never look to a retailers website for the actual details, always use the makers site for such details.

is your pc still boot looping? if so, see if there's a "memory context restore" option and if so what's it set to?
Aleddra 17/dez./2023 às 3:02
These are the parts i have for now. The mobo completly chokes if i set the memory to 4800, but it works for 2400 and a ratio of 1:2. Possibly better than auto at 4k.

I should have gone for 6000s no questions asked...

See, this is what's going on. I had a Ryzen 9 3900X. It's been a beast since when i got it and it's still decent now. I only ever build my own machines and from one to the next, the technology moves.

But yeah, when i first tried to boot it, it got stuck on the memory section. The mobo has a LED for that. I also plugged a speaker for the beep codes. It was going to work for sure.

I was really carful about picking compatible parts, this shouldn't have happened.

I don't know about a "memory restore" i force closed it and on reboot i was prompted to reset the settings, which i gladly did.

Also on DDR5, when you make BIOS changes to RAM, then save & exit the BIOS, it's normal for the PC to reboot a few times all on its own and then have a black screen for upwards of 5 minutes. As it's testing & training the RAM. After this is done, it won't have to do that again for the same settings.
