Memory frequencies
I'm having a bit of a problem with my memory. It's 4800mhz, dual channel 16gb. Now, task manager detects it as 4000mhz, CPUID too.

Now i went to the BOIS, set it to 4800, computer wouldn't boot and started looping. Force closed it, reboot, i got a prompt to reset the settings, which i did.

Am i supposed to select 2400? I wouldn't try that again.

Not necessarily. I'm just trying to explain that you are most likely at the exact same performance with either 4800 @ single channel or 2400 @ dual channel. Neither option is any faster than the other.

I understand i made a mistake by getting 4800 memory, but that's what i have right now. It's a bit like crakers. Buy 2 for 20% discount. I still need only one box, and it's cheaper like that.
I think your mistake was not checking the verified-memory-list for the motherboard and selecting a memory kit on the verified list.

AI overclock tuner(in AI tweaker) should be your XMP choose XMP1 or 2
then exit and save will take a few minutes to restart
(change other setting back to normal before exit and save from bios)

the difference between 1 and 2,,2 is stock timings for that ram.only choose 2
if XMP1 gives you issues your timings should read 4800mhz- 40 40 40 77 i do believe

if by chance AI overclock tuner is not XMP check OC tuner
as your bios is slightly different than mine.

Looks like you put in slot 1 and 3 and the motherboard is seeing it as quad channel.

Check task manager -> performance -> memory > RAM.

What is your RAM speed and slot used there?

Random: When you built your system did you check to make sure this ram kit you have is on the QVL list for your motherboard? It matters with DDR5 systems.

do a bios update.

xmp profiles not booting right usually is fixed updating your bios to the latesr version.

Or they just flat out bought a memory kit not compatible with their motherboard. That is a thing with DDR5 computers. Not all memory kits work with all motherboards. This is why motherboard manufacturers publish the QVL lists.

It's at 2400 and 1:2 ratio. Mainly because 4800 and 1:2 wouldn't boot.

Something i didn't try was ratio 1:2 and frequency auto.

2400 actual IS 4800

But yea it's good idea to download latest bios version and extract to usb flash drive and update the bios right away.

These are wrong slots used. It must be slot 2 and 4. Not 1 and 3.

Not in this case. Maybe try reading their posted page again here: https://valid.x86.fr/v2u26d

Under Memory (RAM) it says:
Frequency 1200 MHz (DDR5-2400)

Which means that currently their ram is actually running at 2400 Mhz, not 4800.
If their ram was running at 4800 Mhz then it would say this on the CPU-Z validation page:

Frequency 2400 MHz (DDR5-4800)

But it's not saying that so it's not running at that speed.

Update your BIOS correctly: TUF GAMING Z790-PLUS WIFI BIOS 1603[www.asus.com]

Set factory settings in BIOS

Get rid of the quad-channel, as it halven the speeds as it looks like ..
you need the dual-channel set!

I don't know why cpu-z is showing quad channel mode. That shouldn't be possible on a Z790 motherboard. Z790 doesn't support quad channel. Maybe that's dual-rank memory modules and it's reporting it that way for some weird reason. Either way they can't switch it on or off on that board as it only supports dual channel ram.

This is likely due to wrong dimm slots being used that are normally used for 3th and 4th sticks when aiming for quad channel.

No idea, they said they have 4 slots, 1 & 3 or 2 & 4 .. there is something set wrong ..

automatically sets to quad-channel , yeah .. so even software may not change this setting

NO. It doesn't matter what slots they use. Z790 motherboards do not physically support quad channel at all. It's a dual-channel system only. Quad channel is HEDT motherboards with 8 ram slots. All Desktop-class motherboards with only 4 ram slots only do dual channel and not quad channel.

I would disagree here. It often matters a lot and may have different consequences on different motherboards.

I did read CPU-Z outputs quad-channel falsely but logically.. for more than a year already..

And ASUS tells to use slots A2/B2 for 2 RAM sticks. Try to find something more on your motherboards manual[www.asus.com] book (pdf).
