you cant really uninstall edge or even disable it, its always called for windows help junk even when another browser is set to default
sfc /scannow
is perfectly safe to do, its windows repair tool to scan and fix system files that may have been modded or replaced
That's not true at all. I have a Windows 10 computer and completely uninstalled edge. It doesn't exist on my system and it never runs. Just because you don't know how to do something doesn't mean it's not possible.
I do keep the WebView2 runtime which apparently some native apps like Weather need.
Edit: it's a good idea to keep a secondary browser in case major issues come up like this one. Since I run a gecko browser (Firefox), I keep Brave as a secondary.
you can pull parts of it out, but not all of it
As for freezing, I've had that issue before. Can occur following a browser update, or an issue with the video driver. Sometimes, simply restarting or shutting down the computer will bring it back. Good thing OP fixed it, that's scary.
I ran sfc and it did say Protection resources found corrupt things and repaired them. Okay, a reboot and still froze edge froze on start. Then I redid sfc, all good. Then I reenabled my laptops 1050 gpu. Then I just proceeded to do Windows cumulative update.
After all that, I retraced what I did previously & remembered I opened chrome first before opening Edge. Then it worked. So currently I have no slightest idea what fixed it or if it is even fixed at all. Maybe if I get annoyed enough I'll test this chrome edge workaround against opening edge normally after my next system reboot.
And for futher reference, I have three web browsers on this thing. Edge and Chrome both sync to my Gaccount but Opera opens fine but it doesnt sync to any Gaccount. And weirdest is that all of them are chromium but arent breaking the same way
The solution is to stop using Edge. It's a steaming pile of 💩 anyway.
A little search turned up the suggestion of clearing the browser caches and histories (both). Did you try that?

Clearing it via the browser function can sign you out of various web sites so I would get a junk files cleaner temporarily to do it. You can try CCleaner free and then delete it from your system.
