Cable Mod 90 degree adapter for 12VHPWR safe?.
Hi all,

As the title says, I'm wanting to buy a Cable Mod 90 degree adapter for my new RTX 4080. My case does not have enough room to bend the 8pin to 12VHPWR cable adapter at the safe recommended 35mm clearance. It is touching my side panel and it frightens me as I've heard if it is not bent at that recommended clearance, and is bent too much vertically or horizontally it could damage the GPU.

I have just seen the Cable Mod 90 degree adapter and it definitely is interesting as it would get rid of the bend and all. However I've heard horror stories of these adapters melting and now I'm really on the fence.

Is it safe for me to leave my cable as it is, buy this adapter or do you have any other suggestions for me?.

Thanks all.

Same as not using them, make sure the cables/adaptor are securely inserted. If you touch or move the cable or adaptor after first connecting them double check they are still inserted 100% and that you haven't moved them

The adapters don't melt. The connector at the graphics card melts. So that doesn't change anything.
You have to make sure that its fully inserted and has no room to wiggle. And then you hope nothing bad happens. But it can still melt no matter what you do.

ATM I have the stock cable attached and I can’t get the 35mm clearance but I’ve checked several times it’s 100% pushed right up against the connection port and won’t go anywhere. Is this safe despite having no 35mm clearance and being at a horizontal angel

nope, they both can melt at high enough temps when the connection is poor
the pins on the mobos power socket has bigger trace pads to disperse heat better
its the cable connectors that melt first

I would be careful with the angle because that puts stress on the connector. You want the cable to hang freely that the force is evenly spread. I would follow every instruction to the letter to minimize any risk.

the 90º adapter is so the cables are not stressed against the case panel

Going to get that adapter then. Was just afraid it would melt my GPU.

I'd buy their angled 12vhpwr cable instead of the adapter. After seeing how many of the version 1.0 angled adapters melted, I wouldn't trust the 1.1s until they've been out in the wild for a bit longer, especially on a 4090. Their cables are said to be rock solid. MODDIY also makes some great cables. I've been using a 3x8 into 12VHPWR cable for almost a full year now with zero issues, and am waiting on their angled 12vhpwr to be delivered to me in the coming days.

Hmm that only has the one instead of 3 PCIE cables?. Not sure I don't quite feel confident with those ones. Would be happy with a cable mod but seems to be universally sold out. I'm afraid to leave the cable how it is now, in fear of future damage.

They seem to be sold out of that cable too.

you plug this into the 3 adapter extension that came with the card its the same as the cable mod just has a cord.just leave the side off your case for now.

Ah ok, I may just source the cable mod from eBay, since it seems sold out everywhere.
