Not enough clearance for recommended 35mm for new RTX 4080 16pin connector
Hi,

As the title says, my case fits the card but there is barely any room to get the recommended 35mm clearance for the 16 pin cable. I pre bent it to 35mm, however when in my case it touches the glass panel. It has probably about 20mm and I've heard that having it at less than 35mm can break it, and I'm really scared. Do I need to get a new case entirely and move everything out since it will damage my card in the long run?.

Cheers.

People don't care about 35mm these days, just make sure the connector is pushed all the way in, I hot glued mine in place.

Hi, it is pushed all the way in, but will it not damage it being less than 35mm bend. That's what is shown and recommended on guidelines.

May have to buy a cable mode adapter for it and such.

The issue is bending to do cable management and pulling it out slightly in the process so it doesn't sit properly. If you pulled it out, even just a mm it can cause parts to got hot and the connector to melt. Thus always make sure it is pushed all the way in. If you touch the cable check the connector is all the way in

Hi, I have checked 100% it sits flush with the GPU end and they're no gaps, but I'm still worried the fact that the bend is horizontal and less than 35mm, due to no room with glass back on, it will still be damaged. Would a cable mod 90 degree adapter be fine?

I had less room than that with my 4080 in a o11 dynamic, but I just decided to keep the side panel off. I'll get a new case eventually but at this point it has been a year since my upgrade, so it may just stay like that until my next upgrade.

I would but I really don’t want to keep it open and let things fall into it and all. Would you say it’s safe how it is?

Buy a right angle connector/cable. Also, there are some super flexible cables around like the Corsair braided cables. They are expensive, but if you can afford a 4080, you can afford a special cable.

Yup I will. But is the cable adapter safe!. I’ve heard cable mods has some reports of melting.

Getting the adapter. Hope I have room at the bottom for the cables.

Cable mod ones seem to be all out of stock!.

Don't feel safe leaving it as it is.

As long as you don't have any pets or children, shouldn't be an issue to leave it open. As far as the cable bend, it just depends. This new connector is weaker and doesn't take well to bends. A good amount of people have had their connectors melt, though many even do so without any bends.

That's what got me super worried. The clearance between my card and glass panel is not enough for the cable to have 35mm and not be bending too close to the connector, the angled adapter should fix that, but I'm not sure if it'll bend towards the bottom opening area. It really scares me I feel like it's fine now but sooner or later it's gonna go.

I don't know.

NVIDIA sure made a mistake with that connector.
