i7 13700k or i7 14700k ?
If you had to pick between the two to get with i7 13700k being cheaper and being able to get today which one would you pick ?

Already have motherboard, ram, and everything.

If you need to know the rest of the specs I will post them.

I read many reviews, mostly customer reviews, of going from a i7 12700k or a little lower to a 14 th generation CPU mostly i7 14700k or more and getting a lot greater performance. Though they never say by how much.
The raw difference between a 12700K and 14700K is basically 7% on average, and that's not just gaming, it's everything.

That's why people weren't very enthused by 14th gen desktop CPUs. All they did was add more E-cores, slightly bump clocks, and use it to drop APO.

You have already strong hardware, no need for a 13th or 14th Gen. You could even await Intel's 16th Gen (Lunar Lake).. and if neccessary to overclock your 12700k.

Good Luck !

Even during heavy load like running 20 programs all at the same time? I know sounds stupid to do.

Your right but I just worry it won't be much of a upgrade even then unless I am wrong.

I know either way with 15th generation and beyond I will need a new mobo.

Yeah, just sell your PC when it is time for a 15th or even 16th Gen. Easily skip 13th and 14th Gen and overclock your 12700k until ~2025 "if" neccessary. That's why it is a K-edition.

P.s.:
If you want more performance and even better and more efficient energy consumption and useage, do a fresh & clean Windows 11 install, goto Intel's website and specific motherboard webpage and install latest .. :

- BIOS update
- Chipset drivers
- IRST drivers[www.intel.com] 11th-13th Gen
- Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework drivers (greatly improves energy consumption)

..and of course latest USB, Thunderbolt, Ethernet, WLAN and Bluetooth drivers..

Reformat/reinstall a fresh and clean W10/W11:

W11 Clean Install
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsinsider/cleaninstall

  1. Plugin your USB with Windows 10/11 install media
  2. Keep your correct IRST drivers ready inside an extra folder, to be save ..
  3. Open Windows Start menu
  4. Restart your PC while holding the Shift key to boot into the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE). Once in the Windows Recovery Environment, choose to boot from the USB drive.

Once your drives are formatted in setup, continue..

During later stage of fresh install, @ Language Selection
  1. cut LAN/WLAN
  2. >> "Shift + F10" to open console
  3. >> type:
    oobe\bypassnro
  4. auto-reboots
  5. >> select:
    "I don't have internet"
  6. Install "LOCAL ACCOUNT"
    >> Profit

Later you can even setup a PIN in Windows Options without being online/Microsoft account

Less is always more .. especially in IT
