AMD Processors
Do you think the future processors will be just as good as Intel's for productive or that will never happen ? :(

AMDs consumer chips right now are a better buy than their Intel counterparts, they are often faster, cheaper and more energy efficient.
Don't forget that the majority of AMD's AM5 processors run 95c pretty much all the time regardless of how big our cooling system is. Which is part of why I won't ever own an AM5 system until they fix this. Even if someone offered me an AM5 system for free I would just sell it on ebay and buy something else.
My 7800x3D certainly does not run 95c all the time.

If its purely gaming, id say stick with Intel, especially if you like to tune / overclock your system, the lower 1 and 0.1% fps numbers on amd their biggest issue.

They are also only cheaper after they were forced to drop their prices after the price hike they tried with the new chips launch fell on its face when they were not faster, the X3d chips helped fix some of these issues.

That is simply not true.

Good luck running prime95 with AVX on a recent Intel CPU.
And Tjmax of the 7800X3D is 89°C.

Nice try.

Intel uses 5-8 years old tech process and overclocking (huge energy consumption). And huge marketing team, of course.

Intels 7nm vs TSMC 3nm - its a huge difference.

I just realized how similar things are to the early 200s during the Netburst and Athlon 64 days. Intel had lower IPC but tried to compensate with higher clock speeds, and they consumed more power, ran warmer, and typically cost more. Likewise, Intel gave you more raw performance for business/productivity stuff back then, but value for gaming performance only was so far stacked towards AMD. Intel was shifting sockets more frequently whereas AMD was less so. All of that seems mirrored right now, albeit with some subtle differences. AMD also can run warm since Zen 3 (so it's not just on AM5), and unlike with the Pentium 4, their higher clock speeds are compensating these days, so things are closer than back then.

Those seem like impressive temperatures for a 7950X3D. What are you using, and I presume it is water?

My 5800X3D certainly will run warm and that's on a Dark Rock Pro 4, so it's only air cooling but it's about as good as it gets. Of course in gaming it's more in the 50s through 70s, with all core loads closer to 85C.

amd and intel cpus are basically on par with each other for games
it's not 2009 anymore

and normally AMD cpus are a little cheaper and have more cores
not to mention they support their sockets for far longer then intel

i don't dislike intel as i personally run a i5 8600k but AMD offers value and lasting support
my next upgrade is going to be amd most likely.

Arctic Liquid Freezer II 240, Noctua NF-A12x25 (I think) in a pull config. All that combined with a relatively high RPM as base fan curve.

On a 32 thread workload it climbs to 80, the CPU will start to throttle slightly but does still maintain 4.7-4.8GHz.

I recall the Dark Rock 4 having issues with AM5.

Did you try a multi-threaded game on it like CP-2077? Did you try something that loads it to all core-loads at 100% all threads?
At 95c the CPU would be throttling hard like its life depends on it. It will never reach this point.

Yikes, really? Can you share what that might be?

This would matter to me because I was considering possibly moving to AM5 with the Zen 5 X3Ds.

The cooler works on AM5, but I recall it having a being less than ideal heatpipe layout for these CPUs causing it to perform quite poorly compared to many other coolers. The Dark Rock Pro 5 rectifies many of these issues, but there are still better coolers available now such as the Deepcool Assassin iV.

And I'm sure all the youtube reviews from all the major hardware review outfits (jayz two cents, linus, hardware unboxed, gamer's nexus) all documenting that all the am5 chips just slam at 95c all the time are all lying.
Some of them act that way when not in eco mode, while the 3D ones and non-X versions work in eco mode by default. Most people get 3D or non X versions anyway. Activating Eco mode is all the X version requires to function normally. My CPU typically runs below 40°C, peaking at around 75°C during the Cinebench benchmark and reaching a maximum of 60°C while gaming. It also consumes very little power.

Oh, seems I'll need to consider cooling then if I go with an early upgrade. Not fun, but thanks for mentioning it. I could wait until AM6 anyway but I was considering an early upgrade with Zen 5 (Java Minecraft enjoys all the CPU performance it can get).

It all sort of hinges on how my current video card issue situation pans out, too. If I have to buy something else to rectify that situation, it will likely push that back anyway.

AM4 and AM5 benefit from offset cooler mounting due to an unusual chipset layout. Noctua offers such a bracket for around $5. Arctic includes this bracket by default now. Thermal Grizzly offers an universal bracket, but it's quite expensive at about $25.
Illusion of Progress 2023년 12월 4일 오전 9시 48분
I was wondering if the offset thing was what Omega might be referring to, but since the Dark Rock Pro 4 on AM5 in particular was mentioned I figured there was something more to it than that. As you said, the offset thing applies on AM4 as well (and while Zen 3+ runs warmer, I'm getting more than sufficient cooling on my 5800X3D with it without the offset).
