Licenses can be had for around 20 bucks anyway if you're really that bothered by it, it's really not a big deal.
If you can't afford to upgrade over the course of 10+ years PC gaming is probably not the hobby for you. Maybe you should try kicking cans, or skipping rocks if you live near water.
Come on, man, don't join the morons singing the tune and spresing the BS. Valve had all the choice and have it and it's a trivial thing to issue a thin launcher-only client. What is requested for almost a decade. They cover by the chromium which was never needed to the essential features, for the spam. And they deliberately chose to ♥♥♥♥ on their aware clients while struggling to push more and more of their shop.
And it is beyond pathetic how outsiders are so happy that other people's game library is taken hostage and run ahead to throw salt into the wounds. :-(
nope you can bypass all win 11 requirements, i have laptops as old as dual cores, dual cpu, that run win 11.
i havent tried any older (pre- 2013) ones myself, but i imagine its not difficult to get them running, heck i had zero issue with the ones i did try, aside from having to reset to default the "power plans" as whatever the issue is, causes the plans to be messed up and makes the cpu usage run at 100% 24/7.
It's not a trivial thing. Someone has to create and maintain that client. It likely wouldn't be compatible with their servers which they would want to keep updated for security reasons so now you need additional hardware/software on the back end so that out of date client will function and which has be to maintained by someone. All of that for about 1% (and shrinking) of their user base which lets face it aren't spending tons of cash on Steam buying new releases and such. I assure you Valve has crunched the numbers and Windows 7 users aren't worth keeping as customers, if you were there would have been no need to ask for a client it would have been done already.
First, not a "man" so let's program the shuttered mind out of that hole. Secondly, are you implying Valve has some kind of "vendetta" or something against a tiny subset of users? You're joking, right? It looks like Valve hung on as long as it decently could before setting an ending date. There is nothing personal about this, it's simply good business sense.
Would you cling to something that had no hope of being maintained in a working condition? Maybe YOU would in your words but the majority would not.
This is the absolute last I'm going to speak about it, so if you're gearing up for some kind of bullying flaming argument based on vapor and hot air, kindly take your stuff elsewhere. Thanks so much.
Can it be done?
I would HATE to backup and restore all the data and all the installed software.
your library is fine to be used on supported OS
so stop holding YOUR library hostage and upgrade like a sane human
back up everything you want to keep, its better safe than sorry.
grab rufus, a decent sized usb flash drive (8GB or higher) and win 10 iso from microsoft website.
run rufus, make the win 10 iso bootable on said flash drive.
disable your internet to the pc, plug the usb flash drive in and run the installation upgrade option.
choose to keep your programs, data, ect.. and let it install.
done, you are now "upgraded" keeping everything intact.
assuming you have a key, im not sure it will convert over to win 10 anymore, but i guess you can try.
at best you may want to check for driver updates, windows updates and run all your programs to be sure they work, or if they need to be reinstalled (likely at least 1 or 2 that have issue after OS migration).
or like mentioned by another, you could go for a fresh install, but i personally only suggest that to people who dont maintain their pc and thus have problems/issues with its performance and likely other issues, even ones that arent noticed.
also to note, win 10 will be losing support from microsoft by 2025.
is even truer in the pc//OS world more so than anything else.if he chooses to let his library go thats on him for being stubborn.he also has the Linux option.but i guess its easier to complain.
