The ABSOLUTE best gaming monitor
I'm in the market for a new monitor. I run a high-end system (I work in Medicine: in an ER all week--- escapism is a good investment for my mental health in my business).

Anyway, go to three different review sites (Tom's Hardware, PC Gamer, etc) and get three different opinions. My only mandatory features would be G-Sync, a refresh rate of 144+, and 4K resolution,--- and while I'm not interested in a wide-body monitor, a screen size of 40-43 or so would be good.

Just wondering if there's a product that's head and shoulders above the competition. OLED, HDR and such sound enticing, but I've never experienced them. I have liked Asus Monitors in the past, but am not beholden to any brand. Not saying this to brag but to inform: my rig runs a 4090 with a high end intel processsor and 32mb of DDR5, so no problems on that side.

Would welcome your opinions! So many choices out there and nothing appears the obvious one.

Thanks-

d.

Many consider LG OLED TVs the best monitors at 42' and 48'. While not dedicated monitors, they work well as such. If cost is not a problem, you can invest in a big desk and an even larger OLED screen. LG's models go only up to 120Hz, but it feels like more on OLED. Samsung has recently introduced 144Hz TVs. If you have space you can even get yourself a 77' screen as a secondary just for games and maximum immersion.

Yet you fail to inform while bragging throughout the thread,

I mean what the F does your job have to do with asking about a monitor?

highly doubt it but the best is there to come:

Does have the time to type "high end intel processor" instead of naming the darn CPU.
Couldn't make that up if I tried....

I mean what is so hard about creating a thread, sharing your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ specs like a normal human being without sharing a major part of your life story?

No need to be rude, he knows what he has.He has either 32GBB, 32MB, 64MB(yes, he knows...), plenty of DDR5 or 32mb, irrelevant info.

Good to know OPs is a wannabe.

Well, maybe he got himself a system with multiple GPUs, all connected trough a SLI-intergenerational bridge? xDD

It's won't be available till sometime in 2024, but this is what I would get if I had the money.

Monitors aren't like your 4090, better ones can release with no notice and you're stuck with 2nd best or worse. The best now won't be the best after CES in a month most likely.

Aorus FV43U always gets my recommendation. 43" 4K 144hz, HDR10, 130% sRGB, 98% DCI-P3, comes factory calibrated. I own several other high end displays like the Odyssey G9 and LG 45GR95QE but if I could only have one it would be the Aorus.

My issue with the PG32UCDM is that even at 4K 240hz, it still only comes with DP 1.4, considering their recently released PG32UQXR 160hz miniLed comes with DP 2.1. I know 4090 doesn't have dp 2.1 port but the RTX 5000 series will.

A microLED?
IDK. I wait until there are less issues with new technology to upgrade.

Well, Mr. Angry Gandalf, you certainly live up to your call sign. You spent a good 20-30 minutes of your life researching me to create a post filled with random insults, suppositions, and general sh*theadedness--- and all towards a complete stranger. I mentioned that I spend ridiculous amounts of money on my rig so that others would know my system would support a high end monitor. Because dropping so much bank on a high end system is (this is called "self-effacing humor") kind of ridiculous, I mentioned that my job is high-stress and gaming my therapy (give medicine a go, you'd be a great ER doc or paramedic; I can only imagine a pt in cardiac arrest looking up to see your compassionate face patronizing them for 15 minutes before reaching for the defibrillators). Forgive me the cardinal sin of saying mb when I meant gb on the RAM.

Look, I'm a total stranger. I just don't get why souls like yourself spend the time and effort on random acts of derision and nastiness I go to these boards and ask for help because the community is the best source I've ever found; so many here on the Steam boards are extremely tech savvy (I may be the guy you want overhead should you get a sucking chest wound; I am the last guy you'd want to slave your old SSD to your new system). I post on these boards because highly-intelligentand knowledgeable individuals who are also amazingly generous with their time have helped me figure out computer related challenges from games/hardware not working to, uh, what's the best monitor to buy. Time and time again. I respect people who know tech because I don't, and all the more because they take the time to share this knowledge with a complete stranger (me).

Is this an American thing? I love this country and Americans; love living here, but I get trolled constantly and that just doesn't seem to happen as much in Ireland.

Look, I'm not Mother Teresa, but I see enough human suffering in my work that to add to the ugliness of the world by random cruelty is abominable to me. I just don't get it Sir. For what it's worth and I don't wish ill upon you at all, I wish you'd think about choosing another way to live your life. It's just the forums, its just a video game, but it's just uncalled for to insult random strangers that in no way harmed or insulted you. Bad karma my man. Did life deal you a bad hand? I hope not. Wish you well and I mean that.

Ralf, I sincerely appreciate your taking the time to mention that rudeness was uncalled for. Appreciate you man.

And THANKS SO MUCH to everyone who took the time to offer great suggestions and information. I always get the best advice, problem-solving and generosity from the vast majority of folks on these boards. Know that what you took the time to advise me on will guide the monitor I buy.

Best,

d.

Just a few points on this.

All good monitors these days support Freesync or G-Sync, and they are so good now that they are interchangeable. I have an NVIDIA card and I have both G-Sync and Freesync monitors and they both work flawlessly.

HDR is awesome, but only if you buy a QLED monitor. That combination of QLED and HDR is just stunning. Having said that, there are problems with QLED in that the sub-pixel layout has still not been addressed by Microsoft and the colour fringing around text really annoys some people.

Personally, I would not go for a wide screen that's so big. You will find with large monitors that they are much better if they are ultra-wide. The reason is that it is uncomfortable to look up too far! So the ideal monitor is narrower.

Again, personally, I would not go for 4K. It's still very hard to drive, even with a 4090. There are games coming out now where it's pretty much impossible to get more than 60~70fps even with a 4090. If you buy a 4K monitor you are pretty much saying you will always have to buy the very latest NVIDIA offering to keep up with games.

My ideal is something like the Alienware AW3423DWF

Right now its STUPID cheap because it's a Black Friday deal. It's an absolutely beautiful monitor. It will blow your socks off.

Screen size and format are matters of preference, I believe. Some people prefer larger screens. I run a 50 inch + 75 inch setup, with 50 inches as my main display, and I switch to the 75-inch screen for movies and games (I play on a gamepad).

I also have a friendly disagreement about 4K. It's the most flexible resolution as it lets me play at 4K when I can, but also at 1080p, 1440p, 1800p, and dynamic resolution settings still look good. The PS5 often runs at a dynamic resolution, and you can't tell when it's dropping from native. Also, most games offer upscaling options, so you can almost always achieve a 4K displayed resolution.
Well, people rarely even play at 1440p these days and usually add DLSS quality, which gives a 960p input resolution and DLSS looks better at 4K.
