100hz only on monitor
I bought an AOC 34” monitor claiming to run at 165hz. I have a legion 5i pro the a 4060 card. In the nvidia control panel the highest resolution available is 100hz. I am using a hdmi 2.1 cable. I don’t have a display port on my laptop but usb c. Do I need to run a cable from usb c to display port to get 165hz? I was using an HP x32 and could get 144hz.

your monitor should come with a 166hz supported cable

I received an hdmi cable and a display cable. You think the hdmi will work? Or do I use the display cable?
you will have to test out both to see which one supports it, technically both should but i prefer dp over hdmi

then go to display settings in windows and make sure 165hz is selected

The USB-C are not all the same. The Laptop must support DP over USB Type-C and usually only one port does that. Without that support such an adapter won't work.
in the nvidia control panel
change resolution>resolution
scroll down until you see the section that says PC
click your monitors resolution and select 165hz
HDMI 2.1 and 2.0 support 1080p 165hz

While true, the Monitors usually only support that higher refresh via DP.

Have to go look at the spec sheet from AOC and see

Use dp cable my monitor only does 85hz through hdmi but does 165hz through dp 1.4 or 1.2
and check the monitors osd menu, you may need to enable oc or the high refresh rate option
Go to display settings and find "Display adapter properties". In the "monitor" section, look for a box labeled "Hide modes that the monitor can't support" and uncheck it. Search for 2560x1440 165Hz (I guess this is your native res).

If you can't find the resolution and refresh rate, you can use the Custom Resolution Utility to add it.

This community is so awesome. Everyone was so helpful with every question I ask. Yes, my laptop had a usb c port that supported display and that was what I needed to get the full refresh rate, or even 144,120 and so on. Forget YouTube or google, the Steam community is the best.

Thank you for your help. You were right on. Display port worked. The problem is that AOC has real poor support. Hard to find anything on their site. Couldn’t even get a user manual. Thanks again.
