Steamdeck microSD card says it needs to be reformatted somtimes

When this happens a reset usually fixes it but it’s scary to see that it looks like it’s bricked when it isn’t. Is this a bug? How do I get it so I don’t have to restart. Btw, I already tried reformatting in the steamdeck but no luck. I’m using a genuine sandisk 1TB micro sd

Lets take these one at a time:

Oblivious: You are oblivious because you admit you know they are using a steam deck, but then say they should not use an SD card for storage and should instead use an external HDD/SSD. Do you not know what the Steam Deck is? Do you not know how its literally *designed* to be used? Are you oblivious to the *fact* that the Deck is designed around using a micro SD card as a primary or secondary storage space for all game files (depending on the Deck's internal size)? Are you oblivious to the fact that the Steam Deck as only a single USB C port, and that unless they are using a Dock using any type of external storage is inconvenient at best or not an option at worst?

B/C it sure seems like you are to all of the above.

Now lets talk about Fear Uncertainty or Doubt - I wont argue that the NAND used on Micro SD cards are the lower of the pot. And that given other better options the SD card should be the secondary or lesser chosen option. But the idea that you cannot or should not install applications or even entire OS's to a Micro SD card now days is pure FUD and nothing more. There is no longer a technical reason or practical reason not to, provided the SD card in use is designed for it.

And there are SD cards purpose built for this. Look for cards with an Applications rating, with A2 class being the fastest and comparable to SATA SSD's in both raw read/right and often even small file IOPS.

You need to read up on tech advances and quit spreading misinformation. Its bad.

This looks fine for the use you are putting it to. I would update to the beta or preview channel on the SD under the system settings. There are some minor bugs with the main build and the SD cards.

Also make sure that you initially formatted the SD card from within Game Mode, if you set it up in desktop mode it can cause issues.

Lastly, take the thread to the Steam Deck forum. Way more likely to get someone who knows what they are talking about re: the deck specifically, also less of the general FUD that's frankly irrelevant to the Deck and the discussion you started.

If I were you, I would head to youtube of most reputable gaming hardware and console teardown. You will see they never use SD Card to stored OS and installed games. Bottom line, Valve hardware are new, and does not have same experience as longtime hardware manufacturer like ASUS, Lenovo, and Gigabyte.

Asus Rog Ally has SD card slot, Lenovo Legion Go has SD card slot, Nintendo Switch uses SD card for games just like other Nintendo and Sony handhelds.

Is that where it has OS on SD card?

PS: PSP and PS Vita don't use SD card nor Nintendo use SD to store game save data.
