Need options/thoughts on a motherboard
So I am slowly putting together a build, watching prices as I go as I'm not in a big rush.
But I would like to get people's thoughts etc on the following mobo.
it's a MSI PRO Z790 GAMING PRO WIFI LGA 1700 SATA 6Gb/s DDR5 ATX (280)
I already have 1 M.2 drive that I got on sale, a Samsung 990 1TB, plus I have my current M.2 drive as this board supports up to 3.
Here's the link.

Buy bigger SSDs if you can. 1TB is fine for an OS drive but for a Games drive you're going to want 4TB SSDs. And don't count on being able to always use many NVME Drives, you might have to settle for a SATA SSD at some point.

The SSD prices are on their way to shooting upwards to 200-400% the current prices, so be prepared.

I'd look strongly at SSDs from WD, Crucial and TeamGroup.

Such as WD Black, Crucial P3 / P3 Pro

I still have SSDs as well. One by Kingston & one by T-Force along with that Samsung 960 EVO that is home to my current win10 install.
I have only been playing warzone the last few years.
The 1TB is to be used as the OS drive and probably break it down.
If I ever do branch out to other games, then I'll look at bigger drives if needed.
I'll most likely only use the 2 M.2 drives with the SSDs.

But other than that, no thoughts on the board itself?
Haven't decided on a cpu yet.
I would suggest decide on the CPU and how much RAM you want.
Then also GPU and then once you figure out CPU + GPU, then pick a PSU that will be more then enough for entire system. Easier to pick a Motherboard once you have decided which CPU to go with.

Would you prefer Intel or AMD Ryzen?

Well, since my gpu is just a year old, I'll keep it. 8GB RX 6600 XT.
Probably 32GBs of RAM. watching a kit of G.Skill Trident 32GB.
My current PSU may still be strong enough at 750 I think.
Will stick with Intel as I've not had any issues with them.
What is your current CPU?
While newer CPUs are much better over say Intel 11th Gen or older; your GPU is kind low end, only really good for 1080p gaming.

For latest Intel Z790 I'd look at these:

I run it at 2560x1440 with no issues at all. FPS anywhere from 70 to 100+.

I feel like the 790 is too expensive. The z690 is often much cheaper and has one less USB 3.2 gen port and slightly less overclock potential. I would only get z790 if it were the same cost as a 690. If I found the 690 cheaper I would definitely get that over 790.
I don't get why CAN is so expensive.
Those $500 Motherboards are like $220 in USA.

because trudeau, that's why. Tax after tax after tax....

There's a glass Thermaltake case I am watching that's $249 up here, but $179 US. Do the conversion and it's about $10 less at $237.

Don't get Intel. You need a new motherboard if you want the 15th Gen Processors. Go AMD better support for your money.

Go for A620 Asrock motherboard as you get two M2 Slots and yes its micro-Atx but put the money towards other stuff

I haven't used an AMD cpu since the Athlon days. Been using Intel since the Q6600 came out. No issues at all.

Well, times change. Intel had the top hand a decade ago. Now it is not the case. So much its well cpus with enough raw performance take 2-3x as much energy. So put against a comparable amd, you pay extra on the base price, and need to pay up way more on VRMs and PSU to keep it fed, cooling to deal with 200-300W, proper case, etc.

Why would anyone with actual sense go pay through the nose to get more trouble and risk? Just for experience from 7 generations ago?

My condolences to those prices in canada, big sheesh.
