100 Mbps (of network speed) isn't very fast, that's only 12.5 MB/s of actual data transfer, that's more or less the cheap standard for half decent internet

Many ISP plans have a limit of 1000 Mbps or 1 Gbps which is obviously 10x that

How many times you use more than 10MB/s? :D

Netflix: 15Mbps
Apple TV: 25Mbps

Basically you need 3.125MB/s or I would say 5MB/s (40Mbps) minimum for one device.

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if you put a 100GbE lan card inside to make a few GB/s transfers in a local network.

No offense, I'm asking out of curiosity because I don't see much point in having more than 200-300Mbps from a user perspective. Bigger than that also means it will have to be used somewhere, and most of the time it is not.

Yes but we're sitting here on Steam discussing speeds. Hey the most you can afford is all I can say. You can't download games fast enough. Or mods and such which can sometimes be a couple GB per file download. Plus it helps to have good upload too whenever you want to upload your own files and content.

250-350 or so is very decent.
God Of War on Steam is around 65-68 GB and that took me like 18 mins to download over WiFi that uses 5G cell service.

No, you're probably limited by what your network hardware can actually pull if you're paying for 1.2 Gbps but only getting 9% of it on Steam, especially if you're using a wired connection. Paying for it doesn't mean you can actually get that full bandwidth, it's rare that you'll ever see 100% especially when accessing servers that are far away, speed tests like ookla's speedtest just test local servers with reliable networks, if you're connecting across the country then your speeds will be much lower.

But unless you live in the ass end of nowhere, there's always a Steam server close enough that you should be getting higher download speeds than that, I've seen as high as 800 Mbps when I pay for 1000, just downloading games on Steam.
