Newbie PC builder here looking for advice
So just built my first PC though I currently do not have a GPU for it and I am only using the Integrated Graphics.

I am planning to get an RTX 4060 (or 5060) for this system in the future but while I am saving for that I kinda want a budget GPU for now. The choices I have in mind are RX 580 or RX 5500 XT (cost is PHP 5k and PHP 8.3k respectively brand new)

I'm not too familiar how GPUs really work so I'm not sure if the price diff is worth the performance or if I should just go with the cheaper one since I'll be upgrading anyway.

If you got other cheap GPU recommendations that would be great too! (My region is PH so preferably something I can order Lazada/Shopee)

Maybe there are also other better or cheaper GPUs that's good for 1080p gaming with Raytracing (got 4060 reco from friends) so if you have recommendations for that that would be great too.

my relevant PC specs if it helps

Motherboard : Emaxx B450M Pro
Processor : AMD Ryzen 5 5600G
Storage : PNY CS3030 M.2 NVMe SSD 1TB
Memory : XLR8 Gaming EPIC-X RGB™ 3200MHz 2x8GB
PSU : Gigabyte UD750GM 700W

why not second hand?
anyways at rtx 4060 lvl raytracing is pretty much useless but if you want to play at -30 fps sure...

Absolutely do not get a "budget gpu for now" that makes zero sense. The 5600g graphics are exactly that. Rx 580 and 5500xt are trash. If anything get a cheap turing gpu so you could at least have support for alan wake 2.

But I wouldn't get a gpu at all because you already have radeon igpu. Unless you have someone you can give it to when you upgrade. or maybe sell it. Seems like more trouble than it's worth considering those igpus aren't bad.

You should have went with a 5600 instead of G if you plan on getting a gpu anyways. Now you're capped at pcie 3.0 standard when we ar at 4.0 with gpus. When you get a gpu the igpu will become useless, yet it still takes up die space. This would be the newbie mistake in my opinion.

You should get the ryzen 5600 instead of ryzen 5600g If you want to maximize the platforms pci express bus speed. But then you'd be waiting for a gpu. The wait would be worth it in my opinion.

The iGPU is as "budget" as it goes. Focus on your real aims and avoid detours. Lots of games work fine on your system as it is. And once you get all the required money, buy the proper next thing. Burning money on detours will only set you back.

You have to be careful with the AMD RX 580 cards because the world is flooded with chinese mining models that often have been physically modified, with components missing or discolored VRAM modules painted over. If you get one make sure it is from a big manufacturer like MSI, ASUS or Sapphire with reliable data you can verify on their official websites. The chinese 580 is technically just a 570 with 8GB instead of 4.
Problem is you are limited to PCIe 3.0 with your board and your CPU. So by picking anything with less than 16 lanes (5500, 4060) you will tank a couple more frames, which makes it far from optimal.
In that scenario the 5500 XT should still be ahead of a legit RX 580, but there are many other options. A used 5600 would be a small step up without that limitation for example.
Enjoyable Ray Tracing is simply not an option in that price range. Older cards like the RX 580 do not offer that feature and something like a 5500 or even 5600 will deliver abysmal frame rates were you might approach seconds per frame instead of frames per second if you attempted to play more recent titles.

I think it would be better to just wait a little longer and then afford an AMD RX 6700. Which will have more VRAM, less driver overhead and actual 16 PCIe lanes.

Try to get by on the integrated graphics until you can get the best card you can rather than diluting that by spending limited resources on a placeholder.

If you really are serious about focusing on ray tracing you probably should be targeting a 4070 and up.

Ray tracing is VRAM hungry along with being demanding. It probably won't be long before you are turning it down or off to stay in the memory budget with 8GB.
