2024 right time for OLED?

Hello everyone, after some years i'm finally starting to look into getting an OLED monitor, and i'm REALLY interested in the ROG PG32UCDM that's coming next year.

Is OLED technology good enough that i don't have to worry about burn-in and especially soon to be dead pixels? I saw a lot of videos where after not much time (few months) there are a lot of dead pixels on OLED displays.

New monitors are still new. We need to wait few years to be sure but it’s looking good at the moment.

Just make sure you get one with a decent warranty and you will be fine. Also, go for a company with a zero dead pixel policy.

I am not sure how many companies offer this sort of thing, but I know that Dell do. You can also extend the warranty of a Dell beyond the normal three years. When the warranty starts to run out, they send you emails to extend it.

And, getting back to "is it the right time?". There are two downsides to oled, and you already covered one. The second is text fringing. This is a very personal thing. Some people don't care, but me, I hate it! I use my old monitor for browsing and so on, because the fringing drives me nuts. I use a dark theme with light text, and that's the worst thing you can do with fringing.

STILL Microsoft has not brought out a solution to fringing, which is both surprising and annoying. There is one partial solution out there, MacType, which is very good, but I use two different monitors and it can't deal with that.

By 2025 they will have something better anyways, they already been working on at least 2 other methods to replace OLED

there has been no real advancement just fancier wording.all the down falls
of Oled are still present today.the only thing you can do is keep your nits low
and dull your colors to prolong it.which kinda defeats the whole reason to go with Oled

better off with a good lcd led backlit lit display, and turn backlight down to 75-80% so they will last longer too tho
but even with backlight at 100% it will still outlast oled before screen burn

I’m aware of the risk and I personally decided to go with a high end qled instead for that reason but too be fair I use my phone a LOT (iPhone X) for the last few years and see zero burn in problems.
I haven’t seen any reports of problems with dedicated OLED monitors yet.

ASUS, LG and others will be coming out with new and improved OLED screens in 2024 after CES is over with, and within these newer screens in an AI chip that uses all sorts of built in features that will help prolong the screen and avoid burn-in.

Phones generally would not have that kind of an issue because most users would never have them on long enough with static imagery to cause such a problem. Usually when using a Phone for long periods of time the user is running a game or playing some sort of video. Where as with a TV or Monitor that is more likely to occur. What I have suggested to folks with early OLED screens (like TV or Monitor) is that when using them connected to a PC that as you take breaks from the screen and/or system, you can press WINKEY+L in WinOS to Lock the PC. This will also over-ride your power related settings and force the screen(s) to enter power saving mode (which turns the panel portion off) after approx 15 seconds of no KB or Mouse input once on that WinOS Lock Screen.
