Liquid cooling vs air cooling
Hi im planning to buy a 7800x3d with a corsair 4000d case my idea was to buy a noctua dh15 tower air cooling but cant fit because of ram corsair ddr5 6000mhz so at this point im forced to buy something else i see noctua noctua nh-u12a is good enough for this cpu ? If not i can buy a liquid cooling 240 mm on top case also the other fans are all noctua 120mm

Test conducted by Techpowerup on Ryzen 3900X , stock clocks AIDA 64 FPU

NH-D15 - 72C
NH-D15S - 72C
NH-U12A - 71C
Corsair H150i Elite Compellix - 64C

Ryzen 3900X draws more power than yours , so the temp would be better
Temps would be worse because the Zen 4 CPUs always try to target Tjmax, 89C for X3D chips, unless you manually set a lower temp limit in BIOS. Better cooling allows higher boost clocks to be achieved for longer periods before throttling down. That's why you see reviewers nowadays use CPU stress test scores instead of temps as the metrics for measuring CPU cooler performance.

If you need the absolute best possible cooling performance, you already understand that liquid is the way to go, however...

Good air coolers can be almost just as performative. I put a Noctua NH-D15 on my CPU, and it's a massive ridiculous overkill beast of a cooler, but benchmarks show it cools just about as well as even the best AIO liquid coolers.

Which brings me to another benefit of liquid cooling. Aesthetics. My Noctua air cooler is a gigantic ugly metal monster that dominates the interior of my PC. A water cooling block will give you a much neater appearance.

For myself, I ask "What's the worst that could happen if something goes wrong?" With an air cooler there's not much. Even if the fans fail, the flow of air from the case fans will probably still cool the CPU well enough passively to keep the machine running. With a water cooler there's the off chance that it leaks and shorts out something expensive. I know it's an off chance, particularly with a good AIO, but still. A chance is a chance, and I've spent too much on my parts to take that chance.

Plus with my own PC I'm not showing off the interior. I have no RGB. My case has a window but it has a dark tint applied and it's very unassuming.

Just ask yourself what is more important to you and purchase accordingly.

I know AIO is better temp wise but i'm oldschool with no RGB and i prefer a giant noctua air cooler for reliability and ease of replacing if something breaks.
