Windows 10 is making my hardware a lot hotter
Windows 10 is making my hardware a lot hotter in comparison to windows 7.
The temprature is 30 degrees hotter in windows 10.
idle temp in windows 7 is 28 degrees and on windows 10 it's 58 degrees.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Could be due to installed apps.
Some apps do not abide by low GPU usage. And may require u set these to that manually.
Like in NVIDIA Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings > Program App .EXE name added > then set just that app (like Logitech Gaming Software for example) to "Adaptive" for GPU Power Management.
It's both the cpu and gpu that are getting a lot hotter.
Things to look for:

- Settings in BIOS related to power saving or limiting fan rpms (disable them all)

- In the OS, go to Power Options and try the High Performance preset.

- Ensure all your official drivers are installed; many times, without Mobo Chipset or GPU drivers (beyond the basic ones) the components are not able to provide the proper auto-fan controlling of such devices without drivers being active. This is not always the situation, but sometimes it is.

- Compare with other monitoring software, running side by side with current one; to see what if anything is different. As various apps read various different sensors in the system. Sometimes a certain piece of software is just not correct for your hardware combination, chipset, etc. For instance, many 3rd party monitoring apps are inaccurate when it comes to AMD CPUs, while AMD OverDrive is accurate for these CPUs/APUs.

- how long since last cleaning? Check the system for dust build-up, ensure all fans working properly (you can monitor all the RPMs for most, either in BIOS or within the OS). However, any fans not running off a fan controller or motherboard can not be controlled directly, but if they are running off the power supply directly, that should force that fan to run at max supported RPMs.

30 degrees is a LOT! Like really lot. It can fry your system. What specs are you running, and how did you get to the conclusion that it's hotter than win 7? :ForumWarrior:
It won't fry anything; but if those temps are true, the wall for hardware throttle is that much closer.

I find it odd cause many Laptops I have used, ran hotter in Win7 overall; temps running OS Desktop and similar 3D apps actually dropped once using Win 8.1 or 10

turning high performance on in the power options if anything will make it run hotter.. for me it disables core parking,c1e etc.. cpu runs full speed and hotter in idle mode.. but other options are well said.

also windows 10 does automatic updates which would put high cpu load until they are completely finished.. especially if you recently installled

Seems windows 10 ignores the fan speeds that i set in bios
Speeds are set to mininmal 50% and 100% max.
Target temp is set on 30 degrees.

I have the following specs
MSI H81I motherboard
Intel core I5 4460
16 Gb ram
Geforce 960GTX
Two 250GB Crucial SSD's
Sharkoon C10 case.

And i noticed the difference between windows 7 & 10 after i reverted back to windows 7.

it shouldnt have any effect on fan speeds i have a few computers running windows 10 and the bios speeds work great..

you can change core parking options and settings... ive done it under windows 10

or you can disable c6 in bios as well

I googled it and found a another solution
I adjusted the gpu fanspeed using msi afterburner. (1000 rpm)

GPU was blowing hot air towards the cpu (it's a very small motherboard)

To the guy saying 30 more degrees celsius won't hurt your system, you really need to get educated and PC literate before making such statements. If for example your GPU is running on 80 Celsius normally and you get 30 more then that board gets fried in seconds. If we're talking about CPU at that point you would get more than your CPU fried. Motherboard and other parts included.

I'm glad Vern found the cause of the problem but still feels bad lowering GPU fan speed in order to keep the mobo cooler because at the very least it will bottleneck the GPU and seriously hurt intense gaming. Let's hope his GPU has an automated fan process because if he decides to play a game on high settings with low fan speeds then he risks damaging the board or shorten it's lifespan and not to mention serious artifacting, screen tear and crashes / BSoD

what kinda case cooling do you have going on here?? if the gpu is causing cpu heat makes me think theres little to no airflow

My case has airvents on all sides and the motherboard is placed on the bottom.

I only increased the minimal speed the rest is still automated.
Now there's coming cool air out of the air vents
