How do you cool down your GPU?
I have a GTX 980 ti that seems to reach 60 degrees. I'd like to stop it from heating up as that will reduce its life span. Anyway how can I do this without buying anything expensive?

Since when is 60c high for a GPU in use? Stop worrying unless it's 90+ constantly.

60 (140*F) is COLD

i wish mine stayed around 60c during gameplay. :)

GPU work temp 70-90 | 90+ throtling, BSOD, lifetime reduction (MAX temp for different models Geforce between 90-105)
CPU work temp 60-80 | 90+ throtling, BSOD, lifetime reduction
RAM work temp 60-80 | 90+ BSOD, CRC errors, lifetime reduction
chipset (MB) work temp 40-60 | 60+ throtling, BSOD, lifetime reduction
HDD work temp 40-50 | 50+ bad sectors, heads dead (especialli on WD) lifetime reduction
PSU work temp 60-80 | 90+ lifetime reduction
at the mobile versions throttling boundary limit and lifetime is lower
70-75 is optimal for all, except chipset and HDD (35-45)
remember that many chips incorrectly translated data from the built-in thermal diode, and the actual values may vary by + -10

Then manually crank up the GPU fan%

when I broke the fan on the laptop, I connected an external from the desktop, made body from "foam board"(cardboard + foam polystyrene + cardboard) - the temperature rarely rises above 80 at maximum load, but when I connect in parallel 2 units, the temperature is kept at 70 at the maximum, and 22-24 at low load
but oh, how it noise... like it is a fighter, and blow away everything off the table :steammocking:

U just buy and replace the laptop fan; they are like $10 - 15 on Ebay

We have online purchase are taxed, while shipment is not guaranteed, can come in a week, month, year... or never :steamsad: it's Russia - region of risky agriculture and online shopping
I simply repaired it, and buy a cooling pad.

just for the future, if you suddenly broke cooler for a time, until replacement arrived, take the fan from the desktop(Red Wire +12, Black -12), the power supply from the external drive +12V, 0.8A (SAW24-120-2000 most popular model), and tape

You can set a custom fan profile to keep it cooler but then you're just working your fans extra hard for nothing. 60 degrees is very cool for under load and will in no way reduce the life of your gpu.

I would not even touch the Fan Curve. Do tests to see what is the maximum Fan % u would need to keep it under 90*C otherwise just leave it on auto if it does not peak above 80-85*C while on Auto. Then what you can do (I suggest MSI Afterburner) is use AUTO for whenever u doing non-Gaming stuff. Then before u launch a game, change the GPU Fan % to what u need to stay cool, then launch your game. Done playing? Click it back to Auto.

60c is a good temp really. You can reapply new thermal paste and high efficiency thermal pads. I repasted my brother in laws rog gaming laptop with gelid gc-extreme paste and it dropped 4c on average. You could also install a side fan bringing in cold air directly to the gpu fan. Only way for sure to lower temps is to go the big boy route and watercool that motha. I run 2 980s watercooled and overclocked and my max temp is 42c but it can get very expensive, very quickly.

What 'side fan' would you recommend installing? Any good ones on Amazon?

Any fan with high airflow. Corsair af-120 or af-140 are good but any good fan will help
