Questions reguarding i3's and ddr4 ram speeds.
So my friend just ordered the i3 6100 for a budget gaming build and i was wondering if it supports ddr4 ram faster than 2133? This is the motherboard we are planning to use: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157635&ignorebbr=1&cm_re=PPSSXOKFSCDPQL-_-13-157-635-_-Product

A Z170 board would be a waste of money on that budget. Why get that when you can get a B85 board for $40 and an i5-4460 for $175? (Considering the i3-6100 is $125 and the board youre getting is $109 it would come out to the same price).

In any case you should get a H170 or B170 board when youre going with that CPU.

That doesnt answer my question though... will the i3 6100 support ram speeds higher than 2133? And newegg is running a deal on that mobo if you use a code so it brings the cost down by quite a bit.

the i5 would be much faster and no it would not
also i want to say that ddr4 ram is actually slower than ddr3 at the same speed

But the standard speed for most ddr3 is 1600 while most ddr4 is 2133. If i can bump up the ram to 2666 it will give the i3 about 10 more fps in some cases making the extra money spent on the mobo worth it. In the case of ryse son of rome, the difference between 2133 and 2666 is around 50 fps according to the tests done by digital foundry.

Buy some DDR3 2600, end of story. It's cheap, i3 with DDR4 would be wasting your cash, I never knew you can buy a i3 with DDR4 MOBO...

ram speed does bull for pc gaming plus ddr4 has high latency and worse timings than ddr3

also the difference between 1333 ddr3 and 2133 ddr3 is about 2-3 fps in most games and those are even with the same latency and times

The i3 6100 doesnt support ddr3, only ddr3L which costs just as much as ddr4.

Well I read through all of the articles done by digital foundry and found that the i3 6100 does support faster ram as long as its paired with a Z170 mobo so that answers my question as none of you have.
youll just be wasting money but fine go ahead and ignore me and intel

Well no one answered my question, i just wanted a simple answer if it would support faster ram or not. Besides, why would you want to skimp out on a mobo and completely ruin any upgrade paths for the future?

the cpu can support higher (oc) speeds but once again ram speeds mean nothing if you have a dedicated gpu

That is completely 100% false.

So what do i overclock to get the ram to run at 2666? Or can i just buy 2666 ram and use it on the mobo without having to overclock?

you can use the higher speeds but i doubt you would see any performance increases with the faster ram

So do i buy ram clocked at 2666, or take ram at 2166 and overclock it? And did you watch the video at all?

yes i watched the video unless you match the i3 6100 with a titan ram does nothing as shown in the video :l
and but the ram at the speed and enable the profile
