Headset not working
My computer doesn't recognize my headphones as headphones but speakers. Because of this the microphone doesn't work. My headphones only have one cable for both the microphone and the audio so if I plug them in the mic hole, the headphones don't work and vice versa. How can I fix this issue?

Left click on your speaker. choose playbacxk devices. change to headphones as default, then unplug after the work to make sure they jump back to speakers when you unplug them. then replug them in and verify they work.

My pc recognizes my headphones as speakers, there are no headphones to set as default.

Then you need to either install software for the headphones or change to the port the headphones are plugged into. Your speakers are plugged into one jack then add the headphones to the other jack. If you are using a laptop then unplug speakers and use that port.

Ok so my pc now recognizes my headphones as headphones, but the problem is that the mic cable is the same one as the headphones one. It only has one cable. Also when I plug other headphones, the audio recording is really low, the mic doesn't capture my voice.

Once again the controls for that are controlled at thew speaker symbol. same as before left click on speaker and choose recording devices. adjust micrphone if available here. now choose playback devices again. go into the properties of the device in question and adjust levels.

OK it probably would have helped if we had asked you what headphones and computer are you using, in case spec become needed.

Well I have a costum build with a MSI motherboard, GTX 960 and intel core i7. I have a Marshall headset with a mic in the cable. Don't know if this description helps, it's the best I could do.

You know how earphones have the mic in the cable? Same concept, but in headphones.

The problem is now that when I plug in the headphones, the mic wont work unless the cable is in the mic jack, but when I do that, the headphones don't work.

Does your headphones have a usb port somewhere on them other then the jack cable. perhaps covered with a rubber?

Are you plugging in the front audio port of the computer or the rear?
