14th Gen Intel Core CPUs
Who's planning on getting one, and why?

I think it'll take another 5 or 6 generations of Intel CPUs to come out before I even consider upgrading again.
At that point I'm guessing 6c, 12t will become the new bare minimum for one reason or another?

The 14th gen seems largely unimpressive though.

Intel are working on a comeback. They are building thier own 3nm fabrication plants in the usa and ireland. And have planned 3d v cache type cpus.

The 13900k with the cache would of been a real beast. I think Intel will be the #1 player by 2026

The 3D cache makes heat dissipation more challenging, which is why the 5800x3D and 7800x3D are clocked lower and consume so little energy. Intel would need to significantly reduce power consumption and temperatures or make 3D stacking less temperature-sensitive.

Intel CPUs are already running hot. Adding more heat by stacking components like AMD already struggles with?
CPUs will cook itself while idle.

Both AMD and Intel run hotter these days, it’s just a new norm, and at least AMD’s engineers have said that running basically right up to their throttle temp is completely safe

Intel are working on PowerVia backside power supply which may increase power efficiency or at least will increase frequency. There may be issues with heat dissipation, but we'll see the next generation, which should have this improvement.

Attempting to argue with a user featuring the community red mark may not be textbook " Tech Karenism" but is definitely something to monitor

Its kinda exciting. Backside power, 3d cache cpus and 5 nodes in 4 years. I suspect amd did a pearl harbor on intel and awoke a giant. I dont see the same plans on amd side.

Intel will be using thier own fabs, AMD dont have any fabs... Intel could with luck do to AMD what Nvidia did and resign them to 25% market share of cpu.

they dont run much more than and other mid to high end cpu as you are never ever
running them hard at all even with a 4090 running @1440 in games like cyberpunk 2077
is your total system running 500/ 600watts.stop listening to crap spewed by youtubers
real world scenerios are never the trash they are pushing.in normal gaming they are
pretty low on power consumption.

i'm on 12100f right now, so something like 14600f or 14600t would be a nice upgrade. 14th gen is more like an option to upgrade from starter level CPUs

If i get 12th, 13th or 14th gen intel, will intel thread director on Windows 11 be smart enough to put older games like team fortress 2 on the P-cores?

or new builds too.

Yes it is. I also heard rumors that they will bring L4 cache to meteor lake and this is interesting, but there is nothing like that for arrow lake.

Meteor Lake is also supposed to include Intel's new NPUs that are going to be made use of by Windows 12. If not Meteor Lake then it'll get pushed down the pipeline to Arrow Lake or later.
