For example, the 14900k is the exact same CPU as the 13900k, with slightly higher base and boost clock. That's basically overclocking a 13900k a little. That's not awesome that's lame.
so i can't honestly say what socket, but the gen 14 just went commerical a few days ago, i think it had a higher thread count and emulated core, but it comes at a higher watt tempature and power draw.
i believe that the Heat of these new processors make them extreme power hogs and you won't be doing your electric bills any favors if you run your computer more then 12 hours a day.
be prepared to have really good cooling/ cold room or year round AC is the best bet, im tempted to get one though, for 750 its not a bad price all in all you could put together a gen 14 i7 for under 1200 dollars with a decent 12gig GPU and on a moderate build.
specs would be something like
750 / motherboard with gen 14 processor,
300 / 12 gig Gpu
100 / 32 gig ram,
200 for case PSU and CPU Heatsink depending on what extra parts you have laying around
under 1500 if you would buy a new operating system of windows 11.
Don't expect to see the 6GHz boost clock often either, sadly, it's there as long as no other thread is doing anything.
With that said loads will be upgrading their 12th and 13th gen systems so you should be able to find some bargains second hand.
However, some of current 13th Gen Desktop CPUs get a refresh at end of this year. These are wrongly sold under the term "14th Gen".

Because it looks like they are making desktop CPUs. Hastily, but they are.
So all know-how, all machines which produce motherboards, chips etc, invented in Germany/Netherlands.

These upcoming 14th Gen Desktop CPUs are revamped models of current 13th Gen and are falsely sold as 14th Gen.
The real upcoming 14th Gen CPUs are for Mobile/Laptop devices only, which will be released at end of this year/next year in 2024. No longer Hybrid-motherboards.
And the next real 15th Gen CPUs for Desktops will be released in year ~2025. 15th Gen will so include mobile and desktop versions again, with latest Lithography tech.

And loses to 5800x3d in some titles. Spare a tear for intel.
It barely uses more than 55% (i use V-sync at all games) and i still didn't overclock it because there was no need, as of 2023.
I feel like blessed.
Glad you are happy with your old chip, alas it doesn't give the best experience these days in anything remotely modern, I am guessing that us why you only play very old games and I suspect if you could manage your money at all you woukd upgrade in a heartbeat.
