Setting up T3 controller

So I got a wireless controller as a gift. It's generic. T3. After trying and trying to get this thing set up for steam, I hit a wall. And it's a weird one.

I open steam. I go to controllers. I test the thing. Checks out. I even open "Big Picture Mode", and hey the controller can be used to navigate the menu and select games. I select a game. And... the game doesn't recognize that I have a controller.

Now I do have a generic wired XBox One controller. Works fine. But this T3 thing is causing me great confusion.

I'm bumping this one time. It's not major. But I'd like to see if anyone can help. If not, I'm okay.
