Elgato HD60 Pro Capture Card and ROG STRIX Z690-A D4 Motherboard PCIe Compatibility
So I'm buying an older Elgato HD60 Pro internal capture card, my one concern is the PCIe compatibility. The HD60 Pro only has a PCIe 1x slot requirement, while my motherboard has both a PCIe 3.0 x16 slot and 3.0 x1 slot. I'm not super familiar with this so this might just be an obvious answer, I just want to be certain. Would the 3.0 x1 slot be compatible, or should I look elsewhere?
If the 3.0 x1 IS compatible, great! But my chonky 4080 might be blocking access to it...

Of course it is fine. A PCIE X1 sized card can go into ANY PCIE slot, doesn't matter if only slot available is a X4 or X16 slot. So on your Motherboard it will be perfectly fine to install the HD60 card into the bottom-most X16 slot.

Awesome, thank you so much! I'm new to streaming and it's surprisingly confusing. One more question if you can answer. Can I use the internal capture card and play/stream/record all from my one PC, or do I have a 2nd streaming PC like I've seen others talk about to use an internal capture card? Because I'm NOT going to do that, and I'd rather get an external capture card instead of an internal one if that's the case.
This kind of card should go into a stream-capture PC. Unless you only have one PC, then it's rather pointless unless you are wanting to capture an outside source; like another PC or a Game Console like Xbox/PlayStation/Switch for example to have the devices video go into your PC so you can record it.

I actually do plan on recording mostly classic consoles, like Gamecube, SNES, Genesis, Saturn etc. So I should be good in that department.
If I want to stream/record PC games later on, I just use OBS right?
Correct

Thank you, you put all my immediate worries and concerns to bed!
For older consoles that use RCA / S-Video type of Video Out though you will have to buy a digital converter box to convert the old analog to digital HDMI.

Don't worry, I've got that covered. RetroTink 2X-SCART RGB to HDMI upscaler baby!
