Where do you install Power Supply Unit [Psu]

Depends on the case.

PSU on the bottom so it can intake cool air.

My gaming rig, the PSU is behind the motherboard in its own compartment (Lian Li O11 Air Mini) My server has the PSU mounted up top in a Windows XP era case, Been that way for years, so I wouldn't call it bad, its just the go to design now, and part of that is so the PSU can get fresh air directly from out side of the case.

If you think about it, mounting a PSU at the bottom could be worse, when I use to build PC's for people, I often mounted the PSU with fan up, so if my customer was to set their new PC on the floor thats carpet, I wont get a call or return later because their PC keeps shutting off, and potently spread a bad word from their neglect or not knowing.

So it depends.

psu at the top, is creating a hot air gap at the top that can never really escape the case

psu at the bottom, lets the psu pull in air from either the case or under the psu, so it has its own cool air and exhausts it independently of the system

I have for testing purposes, would I do it permanently? Probably not.

It will work, but you just run the risk of a pet or child playing with the wires, which is not good, plus its pain to move if you need to move the system around. Can definitely do it though.

My last desktop was using laptop adapter.

Can juat use your whole PC without any Case at all. Aka test bench config. However it will help to have AC unit in that room and a good box fan to blow towards the system when using it like that
