You're kind of late; we've shared this on here many months ago when MS officially confirmed it.

And it doesn't really matter much because all that will mean is the end of OS Updates. It won't be the end of the OS as a whole.

Here's the thing: Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC is supported until January 2027, with the IoT version extending that out to 2032. Similar to what we saw/are seeing with Windows 7, browser support (and therefore, by extension, Steam client support) will likely continue until some point in between those dates. You have time.

Right so while support may end for Win10 Home/Pro; until Valve cuts off Win10 support then the rest of pretty mute.

You should still not be online using an OS that isn't getting security updates, unless you don't value your accounts and data of course.

What people should do and what they actually do are often wildly different things, just look at the 1.02% (as of this post) of the Steam user base still clinging to Windows 7 in spite of it not technically getting updates (the ESU updates are supposedly added to the Windows Update Catalog, but that involves downloading and installing them manually afaik) since 2020.

Even if a Win7 user manually installs those updates; what difference will that make come Jan 2024 :steamfacepalm:

And who are those 0.08% of Win7 32bit users; who would have Steam Client installed on that system; which is most likely a Netbook w/ Win7 Starter Edition. I could see using such a cheap laptop just to surf and post on forums; but having Steam Client on there; WTF for?

January is when the ESU period for Pro and Enterprise ends anyway. Anyone using Home as well as people on Pro/Enterprise who haven't gone to the trouble of installing the ESU updates from the catalogue over the past three years has been unprotected since 2020 and yet continued to use Windows 7 anyway.

Are there really so many new users to PC and any OS pretty much? No software lasts forever when compatibility and security is involved. Just imagine we would be all stuck with Windows Vista.

I love this discussion about protection. Even with every update you can offer; Win7 and 8 have been as broken an unsecured as WinXP. You all really think malicious apps can't openly roam in those OS undetected as well as keyloggers. And you are relying on these security holes to be plugged by Microsoft. Funniest thing I've heard all day.

Stick your head in to the General Discussion board, there's a whole bunch of threads that either directly or tangentially deal with the upcoming end of Windows 7 support. This will be the third time this has happened with a popular and well liked version of Windows, but they're refusing to get the message.

Windows 8 is currently polling a 0.22% on Steam and, much like Vista, no one is rushing to its aid the way people are for 7.

You can SAFELY use Windows 10 as long as Windows11 is the latest Windows version. That 2025 talk only brought up by Microsoft to goad people into W11 quickly because people didn't rush into that OS as Microsoft wanted. It can also be seen from Steam hardware surveys.

So, what is the key point?

It is NOT what "tech gurus" say. It is in below:

As long as Windows11 is the latest Windows version, there is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON for you to get worried about Windows10 and Steam collaboration.

When Microsoft decides on an "End of Support Date" for Windows 11, (of course, this decision can not come before a future CURRENTLY UNNAMED OS gets released as a stable version officially), then you may act like below

Well, you can even go to another projected version of Windows, speculated to be released in the second half of 2024. Windows 12? Windows 11.1? Something?

So as soon as the newest Windows comes out, even as an Insider DEV build, yours truly will be moving onto Windows 11 release full time with the beta version of Windows installed on the other drive. Hate to say goodbye to Windows 10 but whatever.

Jokes on you, I'm already on Windows 11. No problems whatsoever so far and I've been using it for the better part of this month with my new laptop. Old PC is running 11 but it's a cut down version of 11 so that dosent count imo.

Everything smooth, nothing weird.
