A good cheap phone.

I have an ancient Galaxy ON5 now and an ancient prepaid plan from T-Mobile. No data on that plan and no GPS on the phone. I will keep the phone and plan as a backup. Only costs me about $40 a year. Until they kick me off.

I have no need for streaming video or music. And little need for the camera. If I go on vacation, I will take a real camera. I will never do banking on this phone. And very little web surfing or online purchases.

I do want to install a few apps, like Google maps and Uber and some store apps. So I care some about security updates. I will buy one of the cheapest prepaid plans that have a little data along with some text and voice. I do need a larger one that I can see. I need good wifi to make use of hotspots.

Ideas?

I got a cheaper Moto G Power, battery life it way better than my old s9 ever was, 3 days of charge and thats playing on the thing at work. Other than that I can't really help ya, I tend to keep a hold of my phone for a long time, the only reason I moved from my s9 as the screen is small, and the battery is well, has always been pretty pathetic on it and service it better on the cheaper phone, beginning to think Samsung like Apple is overrated for what they are.

Something like A23 have 5000Mah battery; lasts a good 3 days no problems.

Actually it is 8-years of software updates. 5-years warranty

A 200 euro phone has less than 2 years of support. Well, it's not like you can't use it. Otherwise, if you want a phone for less than this, then a Chinese one will do, but I can't recommend them anymore. That's exactly why I'm interested in the experience with Linux phones because of the difference with Android.

If the OP is in USA; our places often have sales that bring $400 phones down to around $99-199 or so. Happens all the time.

Please do yourself another favor; whatever phone you do buy. Before you buy it see what protective cases are available first. As you're going to need one.

A simple 1-2 foot drop for a Moto G and it hits the corner; yea you'll be screwed; whole screen will shatter to where you can no longer use it at all. A good protective case will save you from this BS.

I am happy with the phone I have with the extra durable glass which seemingly refuses to break no matter what I do to it. I also like this steel protective case which you could kill a person with... :p

Phone cost me $324 and the case was $10. So, idk if it's "cheap".

T-Mobile's 5G is actually worth it now due to their widespread mid-band rollout. I would seriously consider a Galaxy A54 5G or an A23 5G. The On5 doesn't even support all of T-Mobile's LTE bands. It is missing Band 71, which is pretty important for coverage.
