If you have multiple profiles that means you can choose. Often one profile will prefer timings over clocks while the other prefers clocks over timings. Check each one and use whichever you prefer.

Thank you for advice, just wondering if it could be XMP that's causing the fps drops and lags in Starfield.

Probably not.

But it's easy enough to test, make the change and run the game. What are the results?

The first profile is just the primary timings and the rest are managed by the motherboard optimization.

The second profile is the complete xmp profile with primary timings and secondary timings.

If xmp raises your temps and makes your CPU throttle, yeah that would cause poor performance.

One thing I learned about starfield yesterday is certain 10 series only officially support fsr 2.0. The minimum 10 series according to amd is GTX 1070, and that's for 1080p FSR 2.0. The minimum for 1440p FSR 2.0 is GTX 1080.

So, depending on your GPU and resolution you may have to resort to cas. The cas option uses native taa with a sharpening filter.

What are your specs and what type of disk do you have Starfield installed on?

XMP is very unlikely to have any bearing on Starfield stuttering as your memory throughput at 3600MT/s even with trash timings is very likely not going to be your bottleneck.

If you have a consistent stutter I'd wager you have the game installed on an HDD which does not work well at all, and hence the minimum system requirement says "SSD Required". People installing it to an HDD have wide spread reports of that causing stuttering and also audio sync and audio distortion issues.

Both Digital Foundry and Hardware Unboxed have done Starfield PC graphics/settings optimization videos to help you tweak your game and/or system settings to improve the experience while minimizing a sacrifice of image quality. Definitely worth a watch on both accounts.

Otherwise, post your full system specs and/or run CPUz validator and post the link to the validation results here so people know what your system is and can actually give you advice rather than guesses.

You should be able to get a consistent 4K 60fps with some tweaking to the settings on your system. Also I'd recommend installing one of the DLSS2 and DLSS3 mods since you have a 4080. Those will greatly improve both performance and image quality compared to the shimmering mess that FSR2 provides.

Not for performance, no. But FSR2 makes a lot of things "shimmer" pretty badly in comparison to native or DLSS. Using DLSS3 however on your system should substantially help you set most things on Ultra and maintain a solid 60fps at 4k with Vsync on (since your display shows it only supports 4K@60Hz).

Their performance is massively better than a SATA SSD and you can get decent ones for fairly cheap now. You can even get some really good ones for reasonable prices as well.

Such as the Western Digital SN850X 2TB on-sale for $120[www.westerndigital.com] (or the 1TB for $75).

Your SSDs will be limited by the SATA buss to about 600MB/s throughput and one of those WD SN850X NVMe SSDs will do about 7,300 MB/s on your system. Really helps with the Starfield load times.

So just unscrew that slot on the mobo where the ssd chip goes in to install it?

Yeah super easy to slot one in and use it as additional storage for your games if that is all you want to do. But If you do get one, I'd also recommend reinstalling your OS on it which may require you to do some changes to your UEFI/BIOS to make sure you are using UEFI boot without CSM.
