A fan is, well, a fan :P
Ah, I see.
And if I would get a good cooler, will I need to purchase fan(s) too? or not?
> i7-4790K, 4GHz (no overclock)
> 8 GB of RAM, DDR3 at 1600 MHz, CL8
> GTX 780
Will I need more than a cooler (this one:http://www.coolermaster.com/cooling/cpu-air-cooler/hyper-212-evo/) for it? Or maybe fan(s)?
So no additional fan(s) for the system? That cooler is all my system needs?
Why you need case fans too? Airflow. Air cooling basically only works properly if you have airflow, i.e. air circulating in, through and out of your case while transporting the heat off your components.
Think of a house with no AC built in.
If you sit in a room with a fan blowing on you, is it cool, technically YES. But if u go into another room what do you have? Dead zones of hot air that is not moving or being cooled.
So the main CPU cooler is for the CPU; the Case/Chassis Fan helps to fully circulate air properly throughout your case, providing cool air over your Drives, GPU, Motherboard, etc.
Without airflow, you will end up with hot dead zone areas in the case and that isn't good.
And which fans (& how many) would you recommend for my future system (I wrote it above)?
It comes with 5 fans installed with room for 2 more. It's a great case and cheap too. No reason to get those Cooler Master ones unless you are using a lot of tech in your case. This will suit your needs perfectly.
As for CPU cooler, I'm using this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5mxOTLMG3b8
Some people call it cheap and low end but my Hyper 212-EVO died on me and I bought this as I'm short on cash atm. It keeps the CPU at 19-20* idle and when playing a heavily modded Skyrim, 35 degrees-ish. Good cooler. It provides support for Intel sockets and also thermal paste.
Don't bother buying the expensive Arctic silver stuff that everyone jerks off to. You will only notice a 1-2 degree difference if that. Not worth the money in other words.
Hope this helps :D
as far as fan specs; well if u want to run well and still be quiet enough, look for ones that are BELOW 28db
If u really want good stuff, get a fan controller and hook all chassis fans to that, so u have control over noise & speed.
It's been proven that there's little to no difference in temps with air or water cooling. Just not worth the hassle IMO. Too many thing can go wrong compared to an air unit.
I got my current cooler for £12. Bargain. It keeps my temps at 20*C at idle and when playing a game, they will go to the 30's sometimes 35's but that's really good considering I bought this for £13. Same with thermal paste. It's a marketing tactic.
If you buy Arctic silver paste which is really expensive and compare it to the one Zalman provides with their cooler, I doubt you would see a significant difference. 1 or 2 degrees if that. Just not worth the money.
Please link to this supposed proof that water is no more effective than air.
Your talking out of your a hole and you know it. A semi decent water loop will destroy any high end cooler on the market.
