MSI GeForce RTX 2080 Ti GAMING Z TRIO with i7 7700K

Hello all!

I'm struggling to find out about the possible bottleneck with the RTX 2080 Ti and my i7-7700K.

Currently I run:
MSI z270 gaming M3
MSI GeForce 1070 Ti 8GB VRAM
Intel i7-7700K
G.Skill Trident 64GB DDR4
Sata HDD 2TB
Samsung SSD 250GB
NVME M.2. 2TB
Dark Base 900
Be Quiet Pure Power 10 600W
1440p Monitor

I found someone in my area that will give away a 2080Ti for around 350€. So I'm considering the upgrade from my 1070Ti.
Would it be a good match? PC-builds bottleneck tester calculated 5,2% of a CPU bottleneck. But I know they're not accurate, cause they don't know what I'm actually doing.
I do video editing and gaming. Everything's in 1440p. So far everything runs stable and is working great. With the 2080Ti I thought I could max out the longevity of my system a bit. Plus the additional VRAM might come in handy.

What are your thoughts? Even if the bn is at 5,2%, how much would that be of an impact. It doesn't seem to be noticable out of my perspective...which is narrow when it comes to this ;)!

I was looking at this when thinking about buying an rtx4070 with my 6700k. There’s YouTube videos showing the 7700k (compared to an i7 13700k) bottlenecking an rtx4090 by about 25-30%. It obviously depends on resolution and the games played but I doubt you’d be leaving too much behind… based on what I saw, anyway.

RTX 2080 Ti needs two 8-pin and one 6-pin PCI-E power connectors, most 600W PSUs don`t even have more then two PCI-E connectors.

I've looked that up and according to PC Part Picker, I'd be best off with an 800W power supply!

Did you get it in the end? Seems a bit overkill. Isn't that card also PCI-e 5.0?
I chose the 2080Ti as a match because it is the last PCI-e 3.0 for my system, that seems to be close enough not to be too much to handle for my cpu. Stability is extremely important to me. And wouldn't an old heart be in conflict with a new brain? I think "mismatching" parts through generations is responsible for a lot of issues people complain about.

Aside from that, I've read a CPU bottleneck is worse than one regarding the GPU. I'm wondering how that wold play out for me?

Are there general downsides to the upgrade to the 2080Ti for my system? The bottleneck, if I understand it correctly doesn't do much.

Anything else I shouid consider?

the only downside is spending too much money... if you have a major bottleneck it is more about the game needs more than 4 cores to run smoothly = chokes at 100% usage and less about the the gpu just using 80-90% of its performance potential in your case...

Just watched the videos. That's interesting. My power supply has a silver 80+ certification.
It has 600W continous and 650W peak power. So it should be good? Opinions about this go both ways..:XD!

Well, when I look at the prices people want for a used MSI 2080Ti (700-900€) I think 350€ should be fine.
Spending another 150€ on a PSU I wouldn't consider right away,,,

Hm. So you do consider the 2080Ti majorly bottlenecking my i7-7700K?
And wouldn't the problem with only 4 cores apply to my current setting as well? Last game I played was Elden Ring. I had most options on high. The game never stuttered and ran stable at 60-53fps. It had bad frame drops only once with the "spewing" mausoleum, that even beefy rigs had.
Most things run like a charm.

no i do not think the rtx 2080 ti majorly bottlenecking it and even if it did you are looking at 300 fps vs 260 fps in csgo or 130 fps vs 100 fps for example... not worth to worry about in your case...

7700K would be the main bottleneck after installing the 2080 Ti, but it won't be that much of an issue in most instances as the 7700K is still a competent CPU. You're more likely to see bottlenecking from core/thread count rather than the performance of the cores.

Your PSU could become a problem as the total power draw of your system at stock is closer to 525~550W, you won't be able to add more drives or overclock anything, I've had an MSI 2080 Ti and I've seen it go up to 350+ watts before. Rumpelcrutchskin is correct.

I would recommend something like the Corsair RM750e, great efficient power supply for the price. You don't need to spend a crap ton on a PSU, and the newer RM/RMe units are made to run cool and quiet. I have an RM850 (2021) myself and it's practically silent.

The only thing bothering me a bit is with the PSU. Trying to understand the content of the vids above.
So an i9-10900K with the 2080Ti uses max 430W under strain? Then I'm more than good with my Pure Power 10? What else would there be to consider? PC Part Picker on the other side doesn't list my PSU with the 2080Ti.
So it has something to do with the actual pins my PSU has and what the 2080Ti needs? Therefore showing an incompatability.

you could run an i9-10900k + 2080 ti on his psu with 550w system power at peak load with blender+furmark running at the same time... my rig with i7-12700k + rx 6800 runs below 400w during cyberpunk...
