cpu upgrade
I currently have an i3-3220 cpu lga1155 socket and I am thinking of buying an i7-2600 lga 1155 socket cpu on amazon brand new including the heatsink for $100.

Would this be a good idea?

NO I7 2600 will struggle in today's games plus you cannot upgrade to Windows 11.

Yes you can. You can use Rufus to bypass the requirements.

And there’s always Linux.

I am not interested in upgrading to Win11. If I bought a preowned on Ebay would it be good to use?

That's the only way I'd do it. Those older CPUs aren't worth paying much for.

10 loses support in 2025 so 11 onwards will be the only option at some point

My motherboard is a Z77 chipset with a LGA1155 socket, so any CPU I buy would have to fit that.
Although, the different between the 3770k and a i7 2600 or 2600k is pretty small. Even smaller when you consider how much power powerful current CPU's are.
nope, main difference is 2600 doesn't support PCI-E 3.0, only 2.0. So this will affect performance of GPU at some scenarios.

The biggest difference is when you have stupid cards like the 6500-XT that have only 4 PCI-e lanes. With a full 16 lane GPU, it's much less pronounced, granted most people still using these CPUs aren't using an expensive GPU.
youll probably regret putting money into such an old system just be patient and save up

pretty sure you can buy used ryzen 5 3600 and a cheap B450 mobo for around a hundred bucks
180-200 euros.
You would struggle to build a first/second gen ryzen for 100 E
But we get the point.

I would never recommend a 2nd-hand/refurbished/used Hardware as CPUs, GPUs, PSUs and RAMs. Get such stuff always in a "factory new" state.

AMD RYZEN would be better. You could get 5700G with integrated Graphics which are better than Intel.

I am 75 years old and may not even be around in 2025, so why worry about it?

what one would fit a LGA1155 socket?
