Need A New Mouse
Seems I've worn out another mouse. (A USB computer mouse for those of you thinking about being cute.)

Is there a type of mouse known for being durable? I'd like one to last longer than 3-5 years.

My current mouse (Corsair Harpoon) is misclicking and the wheel has become stiff and squeaky.

Last mouse was a Razer DeathAdder. Same thing happened with that. Except the wheel completely broke off, and eventually left-click wouldn't work at all.

I seem to keep making bad choices. So, I would appreciate suggestions.

You can remove the switches and replace them with new ones. ASUS also has some models with socketed switches.
Desoldering can be a pain but its worth considering if you want a lasting mouse where in the end you just swap the broken switches instead of going through the same gamble again.
SteelSeries is always a good option, definitely better than Razer, Logitech, and Corsair IMO because their software is ass, Logitech has consistent issues with their switches, Razer is poor quality in general which is why they're cheap, and Corsair has similar issues as Logitech, but absolutely abhorrent software in comparison.

SteelSeries has a lot of nice options to choose from and you don't need GG/Engine. For RGB control, most of their stuff is supported by OpenRGB, even their top end

Razer mice are for children. You can't use the mouse without the software installed and running, and they break like toys.
I'm using a Zowie FK1+. Been using it for years and it still work fine.

Might be worth checking them out. They don't have drivers or any fancy RGB, but are built like a tank.

I'm eyeing the Roccat Burst Pro, looks like a really good bang-per-buck as far as durability for the price ($40 usd at my local Best Buy). The optical switches look like they can last (rated for 100M clicks) and the scroll wheel looks just as solid based on the reviews I read.

Nah, these double click like crazy. The rate on the switch failures are extremely high which happens after 1 yr of use. The newer G203 Lighting Sync were junk, only the Old ones the G203 Prodigy were good but those were discontinued.
agree, both my G-pro and G203 had the chinese omron switches, they failed within a year.

I used to think the same, however when they released their optical switches I was curious - I picked up a DeathAdder V2 mini on sale for $20 back in late 2020, it became my favorite mouse, currently using it on my main game rig. The mini's are great for finger/claw grip. Honestly thought I was going to have another broken mouse by now, liked it so much I picked up a V2 Viper mini on sale for $25 for my laptop. Also thought I would have issues with Synapse, but no problems so far.

Its all Chinese plastic my dude so i just rebuy the deathadders. I am a critic but thhe mouse has been good to me and the best one i used.

No software plug n play 1000hz beats any mouse that asks for software or runs 125/500hz with no software.

Can you disassemble and clean the mouse?

You can do that with any mouse.

I'm pretty happy with my HyperX Pulsefire Core usb wired mouse. It wasn't expensive, but it works well for the past few years of abuse that I've put it through. It has good sensors, and slides smoothly on a mousepad. The wheel turns smooth with no noise. There is no problem with double clicks etc.. If you can still get one these days at a good price, they seem to work well from my experience.

From my experience:

Top Gaming
1. SteelSeries - sometimes they have pretty cheap mice that work great, like the Kinzu series. The Kinzu was retired; the mouse with similar price range, but poorer finish, is the Rival 3; the mouse that looks like it is the Sensei Ten, but at a higher price point. They sometimes have limited edition versions that look even better, but at a higher cost. Over the years, I've bought six or eight (I don't even remember) Kinzu v3 for me and the extended family, only two broke, and, in both cases, I am pretty sure it was an issue of misuse rather than something breaking by design. Anyway, at this point in time, I'd go with Sensei Ten, good feel, good materials, not that expensive as the higher wired range or the wireless versions;
2. Razer - They have some good mice people I know used, some are big enough for people with large hands, I've only played with a wireless one, seemed pretty good for laptop browsing (Razer Orochi v2). I've heard some models had build quality issues, well, stick with the ones with good reviews, go and test them out in a shop, check their look and feel. Check the Final Thoughts section, below.
3. Other brands that I've never used, but with pretty good users feedback (like Roccat, Corsair, Mad Catz).

"Office" Mice That Just Work
- Microsoft* - they made some good working wired mice over the years, from the basic office models that still exist, to the good old 6000 gaming mouse, that worked well even for people with larger hands, it felt like you have a mouse in your hand, not a candy bar (funny I still have that mouse for backup and side projects - the rubber worn off, but it still works);
- Dell* - they used to have very good cheap mice for the average Joe;
- Lenovo* - some of the cheapest mice that work well for most people;
* you need to test them in a shop to see the quality built; now, there are many model "options" made by their marketing team just to look nice, but v poorly built, look for the ones that feel bland and have basic specs, stay away from Bluetooth only editions, they usually lag even when browsing. Classic wired ones work best.

Cheapo
- A4Tech - used to have very cheap laser gaming mice, not great built quality, but v good value for money (X7 series is the model to look for).
- any off-brand/aftermarket mice.

Cancer
- Logitech - designed to break scam, they made good mice in the 90s.

Final Thoughts
There is no mouse that fits everyone, some people need the basic, some want extra buttons, some like them classy, some like them with bling-bling, some like them pink, some want wireless, some want big mice. No matter what your preference, do your research thoroughly:
- check the mice with specs that fit your needs;
- check the "classic" reviews online for those mice;
- on the search engine, search for mice issues, see what pops up;
- look for more info on Reddit (yep, some will say Reddit is cancer, but there are genuine people who post insightful things);
- take everything online with a grain of salt, think for yourself if what someone says makes any sense or not;
- if you have a store close to you, go see the mice IRL;
- don't buy a mouse with extra features, if you don't need them. The more complexity, the more things that could break;
- note that the price-per-value is not linear. Usually, you pay exponentially for linear quality, this is how the current businesses work;
- sometimes, older models might be cheaper and better built than newer models.
