Cool.

How well does Pihole block ad spaces that are left on a webpage/website ?
It blocks them as long as they originate from a known ad-domain.

For example the ads on YouTube it does not block for they originate from youtube.com itself.

The ads on other websites utilizing services such as Google Adsense are blocked.
I think what the user is pointing to is that sometimes blocking an ad may leave an empty space in the page if the space was allocated before loading the ad server.

Do you not get scam or malware ads on a regular basis? FBI even endorses them these days for that reason: https://www.ic3.gov/Media/Y2022/PSA221221

Most ads I see on YouTube these days are dodgy.

People who participate in MLM/Pyramid schemes, run puppy mills, and other unethical business practices also probably have families and eat food, but that doesn’t mean we should just lay down and let them do as they please.

If ad providers want my support, they need to actually quality control their ads and stop making them insanely disruptive to my browsing experience.

Ublock Origin, complimented by NoScript (which is technically not an ad blocker, but I don´t think it's ad-friendly either).

Since Edge uses Chromes engine, whatever Chrome does to prevent ad blocking will likely make its way into Edge (unless MS decide to start integrating ad blocking in Edge, but I'm not sure how likely that is).
I would see it as a missed opportunity for Microsoft to pull Chrome customers. We support adblockers and they don't. That would be a steal for many along with their HEVC codec support, which many aren't even aware of. They should advertise that more.
Yes, but considering that MS has had experiments with ads in file explorer and stuff (it was a while ago so I don't think it will actually become more then an experiment) and has stuff like an advertising ID built into Windows, I don't think they actually want to block ads.

Source for the ID thing, and how to turn it off:

I believe the File Explorer ads were for specific first-party services, specifically OneDrive and Microsoft 365, and were not behaviorally targeted.

Wonder if there is a particular shell extension that controls that?

Yeah, but my point is I suspect MS is too into ads to want to put a native ad blocker into edge and I think putting ads into explorer illustrates that, even if it's for their own first-party products. Would love to be wrong, though.
well i wont be one to starve an innocent family cause i blocked their paycheck coming in

Most of the "innocent" advertisers generally don't depend on Internet advertising for their revenue.
