Windows 7 support ends?? wtf??
My gaming pc still runs windows 7.. this was a willfull chooise.. as windows 10 does not support many of the games I like to run.

I just read steam will stop supporting windows 7 Big red banner..
what exactly does that mean?

-can I still install/play my games just not recieve any updates??
-can I still reinstal the last working version of steam for windows 7 after this date?
-can I still install/reinstal my games under windows 7 after this date?
-can I still play my library under windows 7 after this date?

**installing every game in my library and play in offline mode only.. is ofcourse possible..
would likely need to buy a much larger m.2 for that though+an external drive for a backup.
-Or does even the offline launcher no longer work after this date?

Is this a FORCED update to windows 10?? rendering twothirds of my games unplayable?
**upgrading to windows 11 is out of the question, hardware not new enough
**installing my entire library will be very costly.

WTF steam WTF..

please give me more info..

-can I somehow like I still use windows 7.. keep using my games on steam under windows 7 after the deadline on this scary red banner hits?

"I don't like this person's opinion, must be misinformation" is the typical kneejerk response you people have these days, always in a rush to try to cancel other people.
Unfortunately in this situation that is not the case. This has nothing at all to do with my thoughts or my opinions. You wrote a statement that is factually untrue/false and then attempted to portray it as truth. These words right here:
r.linder님이 먼저 게시:
The client doesn't need the latest and greatest version of CEF for 'customer security' because it's already secure.
That is actually completely false. It doesn't matter what I think of or you or what anyone else thinks of you or what you write in response. Those words were untrue and will always be so.
You’re reading into it too much and making things more serious than they really are.
If it was a big issue like you claimed then Valve would’ve already done something about it. You people will do anything to throw Valve under the bus.

It’s obviously not a big problem and they know what they’re doing, so drop it and quit harassing. Had you blocked months ago because of your clowning.

What IS an issue however (and IS insecure): If it for example someone used the version of chrome in the steam overlay to go to their bank's website, login to it and then tried to do money transactions. Or maybe if they went to amazon via the browser in the overlay and then proceeded to try to buy something there. THAT would be an unsafe and insecure thing to do.

That would be an odd thing to do.

Common sense. If you get screwed in any browser, you had it coming for being reckless.

Alright ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, listen up. You see this crusty Windows 7 install you STILL clinging to like Linus with his blankie? Pathetic. It's 2024, grandpa, not 2009. Time to toss that ancient OS off a cliff and embrace the glory of Windows 11.

Why, you ask?

• Security? LOL Windows 7 is basically Swiss cheese compared to Win11. You think hackers give a crap about your nostalgia? They're gonna waltz right in, steal your RuneScape gold, and post My Little Pony pics on your 4chan account.
• Modern Games? Forget about 'em. Your wheezing rig can barely handle Minesweeper, let alone anything made in the last decade. New games are laughing at your outdated dinosaur of a system.
• DirectX 12? HA! More like DirectX-who-cares, am I right? All the fancy new eye candy? Nope. Not for your sad relic of a PC.
• UI? Windows 7 looks like it was designed by a drunk toddler with a Fisher-Price mouse. Windows 11 is all sleek, rounded corners, and minimalist vibes. Your desktop ain't gonna impress those e-girls with that ancient aesthetic.

Think those extra taskbar features and widgets are 'bloat'? YOU'RE the bloat, pal. This ain't about wants, it's about NEEDS. And your system NEEDS a transfusion of modernity.

Look, I know change is scary. But sticking with an obsolete OS is like refusing to get a tetanus shot – you're practically BEGGING for digital disaster. Make the smart move. Upgrade to Win11. Your PC (and your reputation as a 21st-century human being) will thank you.

while there might be taskbar limitations and reduced personalization there's always third-party tools & regedit, it feels like everyone forgets a majority of customization is usually done on a regedit/gpedit/etc basis, at the end of the day win 7 is not an OS anyone should be using anymore since it's no longer supported even with emergency security updates anymore.

and yet another idiot that presumes that win 7 userd have crappy hardware.

i unly moved from win XP to 7 in 2016.
I spend over 300 euro to obtain a full retainversion of win 7 ultimate.

the pc I bought costed that 4500 euro.

x99 5960x 1350 euro cpu.
128gb (8x16gb ddr4)
600 euro asus x99-ws-e mobo.
and much more candy like it.

its been updated to now rock a 10 core x99 i7 6950x cpu an even better mobo and dual 2080ti in sli all watercooled.

granted thats a few years old but 10000 euro of conponents from a few years ago keeps remarkable well today.

you likely need an ryzen 7600x and an gtx 4080
to get anywhere near its performance.

I hate win 10 I hate win 11.
I know I cannot use the rtx features of my hardware in 7.. I not care.

I not wanted 10 than and opted to spend 300 euro on getting 7 over buying a cheap oem win 10 licence like most of you peasants would.

custom waterloop and a nice overclock.. no game I met I cannot pull 100fps in 1440p with easely.

and I even spend the 1000 euro for 3 year longer support for win 7 than they officially gave (a subscription normally only for compagny licences but I managed to buy into one with my full retail version) as such my win 7 version has more security updates than most.. and sure I wont be downloading pirated content on it.. I use a virtual machine for that.. it works fine.

win 7 can run many of my old win xp games from cdrom just fine.. win 10 can not.

and while I am planning to buy a new pc next year if the 5xxx gpu series is out . I still would want to instal win 7 on that system not 10 or 11.

Okay, okay, hold your horses Mr. Moneybags! We get it, you spent a small fortune on that rig back in the day. But listen up, lemme drop some truth bombs:

Yeah, your PC was hot stuff...back when dinosaurs roamed the internet. Meanwhile, the rest of us moved on because not everyone wants to cling to ancient tech like a security blanket.

Custom water loop, 100fps at 1440p...that's cute. Most modern systems would eat that rig for breakfast and not even break a sweat.

Bragging about running 'pirated content' in a virtual machine? Dude, it's 2024, support what you love – or are those fancy upgrades suddenly too pricey?

"more security updates than most"? LOL. Even with that pricey subscription, betcha a shiny nickel a hacker could waltz through your setup faster than your rig can boot up.

Oh, and about being a "peasant"... you might have the cash, but when it comes to tech, you're stuck in the dark ages.

Go ahead and install Windows 7 on that sweet 5xxx GPU setup – see how well that performs.

It really doesn't matter what you use, I have Windows 7 and I can browse the web just fine, There are still some modern games that use DirectX 11 like Honkai: Star Rail.

Okay so, If they're a hacker, which one are they gonna target? Windows 10? 67% Market Share, Windows 11? 28% Market Share, I mean come on, they're obviously gonna target the newer operating systems. So, the way that people try to say "Oh no, don't use Windows 7!" is that they think that if you connect online, you're just randomly going to get hacked, that is just not work it works.

What about security? Although Windows 7 ESU (Extended Security Update) support ended in 2023/01/10, I found a video on YouTube that let's me get Windows 7 updates until Late-2024. I'm usually not worried about my security.

The UI? The Windows Aero Glass transparency is like the best thing ever, it looks so good. Windows 7 also has hands down the best start menu of all time, It's so simple and yet so useful at the same time. I barely have to do any modifications to have a good user experience.

Actually no: Real hackers are going to target people that are the easiest to exploit with the least amount of effort first. Right now that's Windows 7 users.

I hope you aren't using Chrome in Windows 7 today. Because if you are that is exactly how it happens: You can get viruses and malware in your computer just from browsing any random website in Chrome in Windows 7.

That's not possible. There are no "updates through 2024" to even download at all. Microsoft stopped creating new security fixes for windows 7. There's nothing new to download even if you some how modify your Win7 install to access windows updates again.
What do you mean It's not possible? The 2024-02 Security Monthly Quality Rollup update was meant for Windows Embedded Standard 7 but I somehow got it working on a Windows 7 Ultimate machine. The first time I tried installing the Security Monthly Rollup update, I made a mistake by not checking or installing enough updates, so I installed 2024-02 Security-only quality update and 2024-02 Windows Embedded Standard 7 Servicing Stack Update, and I tried installing the Security Monthly Rollup update again, and it works! Making it almost secure as a Windows 10 or 11 system.

I don't use Google Chrome, I use Firefox version 115, It's not the latest version but it gets the job done.

I have been using Windows 7 for a while without an anti-virus, and I haven't had any security issues even if It's unsupported.

That's really crazy for anyone to do. Not only are you using an ancient version of Windows without updates but no anti-virus either.. wow. You're just asking for someone to exploit your system! And by the way no: You can't rely on windows defender either. Defender updates for Windows 7 stopped back in 2023 too.
Hello

Defender is still recieving update from ms , last one i recieved was the 15/02 as i went finally online again. You also recieving each month mrt

You seem to be confused. I have no idea what you think you downloaded or installed but it wasn't windows updates. As I tried to tell you: Microsoft ended ALL UPDATES for ALL VERSIONS of Windows 7 in Jan 2023. No more updates for ANY VERSION of windows 7. Completely gone. There's nothing to download or install because it doesn't exist. It will never exist. It's gone forever.

At least you're not using chrome. You should know however that you need to stop using Firefox after September 2024. It won't be safe any more after that.

Any security issues that you know of. You could have something in your system and you would never know it.

I never said someone to exploit my system lol.

How exactly DO you think I'm confused? I am not confused not even in the slightest, didn't I say that I found that video that you can get security updates for Windows 7 until Late-2024? Search that video and you'll probably know what I'm talking about.

Also, I am relying on TotalAV now, which I recently downloaded, also it constantly receives updates.

Switch to 10, use Brave as your browser. Disable updates for 10 (more Microsoft attempts to exploit your privacy). When 10's support ends switch to Linux and it will be the right time.

I'm not a fan of Linux since It's not for me, and I already have Windows 11 on my laptop. Firefox is my main browser, I have been using it since 2010 when I got my first ever computer.
