No sound
Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition
The sound worked the first time I tried to play. The second time no sound. My computer has sound just not the game. If I need to download the game again do a fix for Direct X I am not computer savy.

You sure you didn't change output devices in Windows?

A common happening is that the sound goes to the monitor through HDMI (which may have no speakers only a headphone jack) instead of to the jacks on the board/case.

I have 2 external speakers that work when not playing the game. HDMI is plugged into the monitor and speakers are plugged into the monitor. Speakers work when not playing the game.
So i think it is something to do with the game.

Also when the game is running, go back to OS Desktop and check the Windows Mixer to ensure the game is not simply turned down or muted

There is common issue with the sound in game. Sometime running program will running a sound output then the windows itself disconnected. After that, the program can no longer outputting sound. This part requires restarting the program or the PC.

That might be what I did.

I'm an audiophile and sometime windows disconnected the sound output for a short time, then the running program no longer able to outputting sound.

So I can think of the possibility.

If you use Realtek or others, check if they have options to disable hotplug detection. So the sound device doesn't disappear when you unplug speakers or headphones. If that is enabled then you need to plug in your speakers or headphones and ensure that device is the default so your game can be assured to use that upon launch. If you use USB audio device of any kind, same deal, connect it and double check the sound in it before launching a game. As with most games if hotplug is done while the game is running the game will most likely need to be restarted to get the audio working in that app again.
