Help installing linux
I recently upgraded to a 13700kf with a z690 mobo along with a rtx 4080. I've tried to install several Linux distros including kubuntu, pop os and mint cinnamon. Each time the install completes and it tries to reboot I get a "neuvou unknown chipset" error and it won't proceed past that. Can anyone help? From what I've read, both cpu and gpu are supposed to be supported in the latets kernel.

Boot with the nomodeset kernel parameter and install the latest proprietary Nvidia drivers.

Distros such as Pop!_OS include the Nvidia drivers by default.

Forgive my ignorance but how do I do that?

Also yeah that's what makes me even more confused as pop os gave the same error

I checked, and Pop!_OS, and likely the other distros also, do not work because their software is too old. The latest kernel indeed supports you card, yet the latest version of Ubuntu and Pop!_OS are not running this kernel out of the box. Their kernel is about a year old.

Nouveau is the open source Nvidia driver.

How to do it exactly will differ per distro.

It is best to do this on the non-Nvidia Pop!_OS installer to avoid the driver from causing problems;
- In the Pop!_OS bootloader hit one of the arrow keys to stop the countdown
- Press `e` on your keyboard to enter the editor
- On the `linux` line, all the way at the end but before the --- add `nomodeset nouveau.nomodeset=0`
- Press F10 to boot
- Update the OS fully and install the latest Nvidia drivers BUT NOT FROM THE NVIDIA WEBSITE

Alternatively, you can grab a more up to date distro. The latest Fedora Workstation, OpenSUSE Tumbleweed or Arch if you are feeling adventerous.
